RR3/BYOB2/PACT5

*Special thanks to Trace-02 for the awesome Sophie image :3 *

Three events rolled into 1! On August 1, 2009 we will be celebrating RR’s 3rd foundation year, our 2nd Build Your Own Burger event, and out 5th Armored Core tournament with a highly experimental tiered randomized 2-on-2 system for AC:LR which will happen in the middle of the day. For more details, please click HERE.

This is going to be held in Sforza‘s place in Makati if he’s still around by August 1. If not, its going to be in Lord Leperman‘s place, which is 3 minutes away.

Hope to see you guys there.

UPDATE – Great success!

PACT 5 PREPARATIONS

We’ve decided to hold what will most likely be our last tournament using Armored Core: Last Raven to celebrate Raven Republic’s 3rd anniversary. BYOB part 2 will probably happen on the same day as well.

Currently, we’re still deciding on the format to use for the tournament. Help us decide by voting in the PACT 5 Format thread.

The tentative date for the event is on August 1, 2009. For other details and updates, just check up on the appropriate threads in the forums.

UPDATE: Polling has determined that PACT 5 will take a slightly different turn from our previous tournaments. We’re going to use a two-on-two format! Other rules are still being discussed though.

I’ll Break Your Face!

Last June 28, we held the second Iron Fisticuffs tournament. Basically since we’re now looking at other games to play each other at, things naturally turned to that genre which was birthed from the very idea of competition: fighting games. Specifically, Tekken: Dark Resurrection.

PACT – Prawns, Armored Core, Tekken

This is a very late update. With that, let’s go.

PACT IV came eventually. And the action was good. We saw a mix of old timers and newcomers, and I think the rules held up well. No one brought anything that was too overpowering or cheap. Cheers to you, gentlemen.

PACT IV!

Calling all Ravens in the vicinity of Metro Manila!

PACT III, Concluded

PACT III: ah, the day finally arrived. After planning the new regulations for so long, we finally got to try it out in a real tournament situation. And the results confirmed what was lingering there all along, but no one really pointed out… that the format was pure genius. Forcing players to create three distinct (and by distinct, I mean really distinct) ACs was the key to refreshing the way we approached the game as a whole.

Think about it: every round, a different AC to face. That means readjusting everything: your strategy, the tactics you will use, what kind of game you’re going to play, and so on, all while taking into account your opponent’s personal and general playing style. Quite a challenge, and as beastkiller said, it really forces you out of your comfort zone, which is always a good thing.

The matches were great. We had good variety of designs and playstyles.

Eventually we had a winner, and surprise surprise, who else would it be but the best among us? Congrats Leperman!

Click on the image below to see the whole story of the brackets. If the right side doesn’t make any sense, well let’s just say we have a winner, and leave it at that. Otherwise explanations would take all day.

PACT 3.1

In continuation of PACT III, we’re holding 3.1 this Saturday, November 10. Place is still sforzando‘s residence.

Honor the system and don’t change your ACs guys. For the new entrants, unfortunately you’ll only be able to officially rank through the loser’s bracket.

Speaking of the system, we’ll be using the new way of scoring matches, so you better try and obliterate your opponents every time in all the ways the game allows it.

For the four semifinalists: me, Lord_Leperman, maitreya and NiX, good luck and godspeed!

Let’s fight like gentlemen!

PACT 2.1 Results

Man, this is massively overdue. But hey, we all know by now what the results were anyway, so this is kind of just a formality.

A great many thanks to our gracious hosts, NiX and maitreya.
A great many thanks to all those who came and participated as well.

The PACT just keeps getting better and better. The contestants were arguably better this time around, and there was greater variety in the designs. Maybe it’ll grow even more in the future, but only time will tell that for now. In the meantime, enjoy the results.
