Now THAT’S an Armored Core: Guns VS. Missiles

Another fine entry in our “Now That’s An Armored Core” line. How do you turn basic AC models in to hulking badasses of destruction? Let 507 design one of them and let another AC modeling madman re-design Armored Core’s super bad guy and turn it into a beast rivaling 507’s famous Black Rain.

Scratch-Built Spirit of Mother Will from Armored Core: for Answer

The dauntingly massive Arms Fort Spirit of Mother Will from Armored Core: for Answer comes to you as a (not-so-massive) scratch-built model from the same guy who brought to us the recently featured Phosphorus Armored Core.

Now THAT’S an Armored Core: Phosphorus

An utterly underwhelming name for a very awesome looking kit, like calling everything featured in “Now That’s an Armored Core” a bunch of MTs. The creator, Reikouzi could have called it something like Firestorm, or something more well deserving.

Now THAT’S a Kämpfer/Gouf!

Over at the forums, resident kit-basher Fox just directed us to a ridiculously good scratch-built original model that won the Hobby Japan: All Japan “Ora-Zaku” Championship 13th.

Named YAMS-130B Greifer, this fan-created mobile suit is a reimagining of the classic MS-18E Kämpfer (or MS-07 Gouf?) for the Unicorn Gundam timeline.

Now THAT’S an Armored Core: Custom Lahire

Long time, no post, but this one piece is too good to pass up. Allegedly from the same creator of the Aaliyah Custom this really well painted Lahire kit has no special mods, gimicks or tricks, but it sure is pleasing to look at. With a blue, white, and gold paint scheme, the overall combination of colors plus the builder’s skill combine together for a fine finish.

Thanks J.E. for the heads up.

Armored Core Diorama

Dioramas for mecha plastic models are pretty common especially with Gundam and other major giant robot franchises, so we were surprised to see an actual existing diorama for Armored Core. As far as we know, this is the first time someone actually made one for our favorite mech shooter, and actually did a good job at it.

The title of this piece is “L’ Agguato 2.0” (The Ambush 2.0) and shows the modeler’s skills in painting miniaturesand some nicely done weathering effects on the set pieces, as well as on the Hogire AC centerpiece all in its 1/72 scale glory. Click on the jump for more pics:

Now THAT’S an Armored Core: Foxeye Juggernaut

We really didn’t know what to call it, and the name was just an impromptu of nicknames given by our forum members after witnessing the awesomeness of this issue of Now That’s An Armored Core. At first glance, it looks like a heavily modified Foxeye, similar to what Jack-O was piloting in Armored Core Last Raven, but numerous changes clearly differentiate this unit from the game incarnation.

One can see the top-notch weathering effects on the model as well as the addition of little rectangular blocks, which we would assume to be pieces of Reactive Armor, painstakingly attached to the various joints and limbs of this unit, as well as a CAMS attached to the ATLAS core part in addition to additional weapons. See more pictures after the jump:

Now THESE are Armored Cores!

FG Site recently sponsored an Armored Core model making competition, and the results are nothing less than what we would feature in our Now That’s An Armored Core series. It comes to no surprise that the top placer was 507, the same person who built the very awesome Black Rain and Cronus Vestal. Hit the jump for the top placers as well as another honorable mention.
