Armored Core Analogs: Handguns

While rifles, bazookas, and shotguns are the most common hardware pilots will arm their AC’s with, that doesn’t necessarily mean these weapons dominate the realm of whoop-assery during a fight. In fact, some guys are more afraid of these guns AFTER they run out of ammo.

That’s because they know that all those grenade blasts and bazooka shells that have battered them within an inch of their AC’s life are just a prelude, an opening act, and that the minute their enemy drops all that heavy weaponry, the real ass-kicking begins.

Armored Core Championship Tournament Season 3 Finals Result

The results of a Japanese nationwide Armored Core: Last Raven Portable tournament held last May 29 are finally in, gathering 8 ravens from all over Japan to one tournament to find out who is indeed the Last Raven.

A Dengeki Online coverage of the tournament noted some observations from PS2 PvP games of ACLR, most significant is the greater difficulty of aerial battles due to the limitations of the PSP’s button configuration, making the look-up and look-down functions a bit more awkward compared to the PS2 version.

In addition, there is greater emphasis on range control, or darting in and out of one’s effective weapons range to dish out damage instead of short range slug-fests. Much of the player victories are attributed to AP lead instead of destroying an opponent’s AC.

In line with the celebrations, a web poll was conducted asking fans who they think will win the grand championship. Fan speculations turned out accurate, with the winner of the fan poll also being the winner of the tournament as well. Hit the jump to find out who the champion is and watch the fight videos:

Ballsiest Way To Defeat The Final Pulverizer

Get ready for an upset…

The Final Pulverizer is a big blue menace. Fast, hard hitting, and nigh unstoppable for the rookies of Armored Core, it fittingly deserves the position of being the final boss of Armored Core Last Raven (Once the player unlocks all missions and ending paths).

Sure there are various methods of defeating Armored Core Last Raven’s secret boss for the series’ veterans (The seemingly useless Parry Blades for example), but by far the ballsiest way to kill the damn thing is by using nothing more than the starter AC. This also works for players seemingly strapped for cash in-game (how you run out of money at this point of the game, we don’t know). Hit the jump for the video:

Now THAT’S an Armored Core: Foxeye Juggernaut

We really didn’t know what to call it, and the name was just an impromptu of nicknames given by our forum members after witnessing the awesomeness of this issue of Now That’s An Armored Core. At first glance, it looks like a heavily modified Foxeye, similar to what Jack-O was piloting in Armored Core Last Raven, but numerous changes clearly differentiate this unit from the game incarnation.

One can see the top-notch weathering effects on the model as well as the addition of little rectangular blocks, which we would assume to be pieces of Reactive Armor, painstakingly attached to the various joints and limbs of this unit, as well as a CAMS attached to the ATLAS core part in addition to additional weapons. Armored Core Championship Tournament Season 3 Preliminary Results

The official From Software sponsored Armored Core Championship Tournament has completed its preliminary round for its 3rd season and uses the recently released Last Raven Portable on the PSP platform. The well documented tournament has a wonderful set of videos coming from the Kinki and Tokai prefectures of Japan as of the moment.

A quick look on the new videos reviles the absence of new parts included by From from any of the Portable series releases, which leads us to think that the top players in this tournament prefer tried and true formulas rather than embark on a risky experiment with their designs. In addition all the designs used the very powerful TP booster, which was banned in many tournament circles outside Japan as well as our very own Philippine Armored Core Tournament for the past 5 iterations. Much of the fights also boil down to a war of attrition, with hangared pulse weapons and handguns taking center stage.

LEGO Cascade Range

It seems not only the V2 Gundam can be turned into a LEGO statue as Armored Core: Last Raven’s Cascade Range has returned, in LEGO form. These pictures are found in the depths of the Japanese Armored Core Wiki site, and thus the name of the creator and the instructions on how to make this magnificent piece escape us.
