GIANT ROBOTS!

Kōgorō Kurata, who years ago built a life-size VOTOMS statue, is now concentrating his efforts on building his very own 4-ton 4-meter-tall rideable mech. Once complete, the mech will be able to move through hydraulics, software, and a diesel engine, and it will even have a working cockpit hatch. Continue reading »

The YouTube account CDCFL801 is totally packed with pain-staking stop-motion animations using various toys and figures such as Gundam and Busou Shinki. The webisodes are particularly noteworthy for excellent editing, super-smooth animation, and dynamic movement. What may be even more amazing is how his extensive collection survives such filming ordeals. Now if only we could understand the dialog…

Battle Armor Division

Mecha Damashii recently covered the release of interestingly titled mecha side-scroller Battle Armor Division (B.A.D.) by Crian Soft. As you’ll see in the video below, the gameplay is very reminiscent of mecha classics such as Assault Suits Valken (Cybernator) and Metal Warriors. Continue reading »

Greifer 06

Over at the forums, resident kit-basher Fox just directed us to a ridiculously good scratch-built original model that won the Hobby Japan: All Japan “Ora-Zaku” Championship 13th.

Named YAMS-130B Greifer, this fan-created mobile suit is a reimagining of the classic MS-18E Kämpfer (or MS-07 Gouf?) for the Unicorn Gundam timeline. Continue reading »

Multiplayer: awesome, salvageable or sucky?

Yes, we’re very much still alive here at RR, thank you very much. But anyway.

There’s been quite a buzz regarding Front Mission Evolved since it came out. Consistent enough with most mecha games, the single player experience in terms of plot/story and character development isn’t really surfacing on the write-ups around the web. Everyone has been more focused on the game mechanics, and more importantly how these translate into the multiplayer aspect.

Unfortunately, it’s not been all rosy reviews (or at all, for that matter).

Hit the jump to find out what people are saying.

Nine-Ball Seraph is indeed present in the From Software developed mecha mash-up called Another Century’s Episode: R. The iconic Armored Core villain, this time controlled by pilot Winter, appears as the second to the last boss of the game. And after the 11th playthrough, Nine-Ball becomes a player selectable mech. Steel Battalion

Just a few hours ago during Microsoft’s Tokyo Game Show, mecha fans were treated to a teaser for a new Steel Battalion game being developed by From Software, of Armored Core and Demon’s Souls fame, for Capcom. This new Steel Battalion game is set to take advantage of Microsoft’s Kinect technology instead of the 32-button controller that the original was famous for. But of course it’s still too early to tell how exactly the Kinect will be used to simulate piloting a giant robot.

Anyway, enjoy the trailer below and be hyped with the rest of us.

Kehei_Render1_lg

Around a month left before Front Mission Evolved’s release and we get teased with a new Wanzer once again. This time it’s the KEHEI, a Wanzer from Da Han Zhong, a faction that first appeared during the events of Front Mission 3, and given the introduction of this unit, they might play another role in the upcoming FME title. The appearance of this Wanzer is very much different from the previous ZEPHYR teased a few months back. Nonetheless, this new unit is a welcome addition to FME’s growing arsenal.

Read more about this new Wanzer in the FME development blog.
