Armored Core Portable Controls

One of FROM’s biggest hurdles in converting their PS2 Armored Core titles to the PSP was the control scheme. The inherent difference in the number of buttons on the dual shock and the PSP meant that the controls simply couldn’t be the same. This is evidenced by how FROM’s first portable Armored Core game, Formula Front, was initially an AI arena only. FROM eventually did implement player control, but with automated vertical aiming due to the absence of the L2 and R2 buttons on the PSP. This made for what enthusiasts considered a dumbed down Armored Core experience.

With the release of Armored Core 3 Portable and the announcement of Silent Line Portable, many players wondered how FROM would work around this button handicap. The image below shows how they decided to lay out the default controls.

Armored Core 3 Portable – New Parts

Here’s a gallery of the new parts that appear on AC3P as well as their stats. Most of the frame parts and weapons are remakes of older AC parts not included in the recent games such as in Last Raven.

8-Bit LEGO Awesomeness!

Applehead recently pointed us all towards what is probably the greatest YouTube video many of us have ever seen.

With their masterful combination of LEGO animation and playful music, the duo known as Rymdreglage (Daniel Larsson and Tomas Redigh) successfully rekindle the feel of video games from the 8-bit era through their video masterpiece aptly entitled 8-bit Trip.

Keep an eye on this viral video in the making.

UPDATE (8/25/09) – When I went to bed, yesterday, the vid was still at 180,000+ views. Now it’s at 400,000+!

Great Success!

Raven Republic’s triple attraction event finally pushed through, and boy was it awesome!

When Maitreya and I arrived at Leperman’s house at around noon, most of the members were already there, with some playing Blazblue and others already playing LR. In the shadows, a few enterprising individuals had already begun harvesting prawns!

Outside, stacks and stacks of burgers, buns, and condiments were spread all over just waiting to be consumed. Super Chef Hempire brought some awesome sauces and toppings and he even managed the grill for us for pretty much the whole day. What’ll we do without you, Hemp? :(

PACT 5 PREPARATIONS

We’ve decided to hold what will most likely be our last tournament using Armored Core: Last Raven to celebrate Raven Republic’s 3rd anniversary. BYOB part 2 will probably happen on the same day as well.

Currently, we’re still deciding on the format to use for the tournament. Help us decide by voting in the PACT 5 Format thread.

The tentative date for the event is on August 1, 2009. For other details and updates, just check up on the appropriate threads in the forums.

UPDATE: Polling has determined that PACT 5 will take a slightly different turn from our previous tournaments. We’re going to use a two-on-two format! Other rules are still being discussed though.
