Rant: Haywire won't let me spar with her unless I get her a full set of training armor T_T . Will ask my master where to get an affordable set. From where I come from, the helmet IS the armor - everything else is considered optional.

Well, with helmet only... you should probably go for a thai plum clinch and then headbutt her.

We're trained differently.

I'd prefer to go for a parry, disarm, and a wrist lock followed up immediately with a shot to the ribs, and from where the stick's resting, slide it up for an arm lock, then a leg trip.
