This was such a great day. RR just makes you forget about all your problems and just makes the whole thing much sweeter.
Rundown for people who didn't go or make it early. We pretty much started at 11am when we got to Sforza's house and started setting up the equipment. We waited till around 2pm for everyone to arrive before we started the tournament, but not after having a hearty meal of curry rice .
On this day we backronym'd PACT into something that can easily summarize the day: Porn, Armored Core, Tekken. Let's all fight like fishermen instead of gentlemen the next time XD. Let's beat each other up in Tekken, Streetfighter and AC.
Marshaling the tourney was pretty hard IMO, next time I'll prolly ask for help since sitting for extended periods will lead to cramps ). The tourney was pretty long (I did the math and expected it to be at around 6-7 hours, but I felt that something like this should just last for a few, so I didn't believe my numbers). The day progressed quite slowly for me as I was mostly in the PACT room doing the math and managing the tourney, though I was aware that people were having fun on the other room with freeplay games. The buildup was slow, but midway through the tournament things became interesting. The participant lineup was filled with a mix of new faces and a bunch of familiar ones, but the catch was a large majority of participants were on almost equal footing, and thus the outcome was rather unpredictable. There were a lot of close fights, and I wish I could have recorded all of them, but my memcard can only hold so much.
Results, shoutouts, etc:
Eithermaster faced off with his old sensei Moonlight_Raven in the final championship match. Both were pretty much on equal footing, until Moonlight_Raven's AC design limitations gave-out because it couldn't keep up with the requirements of the pilot's skill. Thus the end victory went to his once apprentice, Eithermaster. Great work on both participants for using unconventional design configurations (Birdie, TP on a single weilder KSAW, and dual AST rifles on a light OB core reminiscent of SL's dual rifle rusher builds).
Mikeberserker put up a good show, though he was overly pressured during his last fight because had to leave early for personal reasons. Mike, good luck with your plans in life, and wherever it takes you, I hope we were able to help in one way or another. If you have the time to meet us again then just tell us .
Nix dropped by for a bit around the time after the tournament started and had a couple of matches in AC with Moonlight Raven and I, along with some Tekken with DT and everyone else who was there IIRC. Grim played some SF3 using Dudley against DT's Andore, and Monster Hunter 2 with Sforza as well.
Zanthblade (or was it Azuriel?) and Grimweld were both new comers to RR and this was their first meeting along with Moonlight Raven and Eithermaster in participating in a tournament. We hope to see more from these two in the following meetings in the future. It may be a long road to become good, but these guys are getting there.
Atdsum and Archangel performed much better than I expected, especially considering that they don't practice on a regular basis because of the circumstance of their PS2, they've done really really well for people who hadn't practiced in a while. Though in all honesty, these guys both crack me up in a good way whenever they’re both together . Archangel: It’s alright, I didn’t mind having to use my car to bring you home, it was necessary anyway.
Doc proved what he said, and did it with a bang… see earlier posts about it. And from what I’ve been hearing, DT put up a good show with all the fighting games that were played.
Fox and Shin were also present, though Fox didn’t bring his trademark milky balls, he had something just as good in the form of mini-bibingka pies from Ilocos. Thanks for letting us have a taste of those . As for Beastkiller, fresh from his massive delivery of slaughtered beast, decided to unwind with his fellow warriors in Sforza’s den in the evening.
As evening arrived, we moved to eat at Dencio’s in Powerplant mall. I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves (Thanks to Doc for the pics):
After the dinner, we headed back… My memory was a bit fuzzy after drinking that White Russian Cocktail so if anyone can fill me in on what happened between 11:30 and the time we left the place, please do tell me. Anyway, I’m pretty tired until now and this was indeed one great day, and this was probably the most professional PACT tournament we’ve ever done, so there’s something we should be proud of. I'll post vids soon, I promise... Once my PS2 is assembled and my digi-cam recharges at least
Great day folks, I was really happy to be there.
Some quotes:
"Shet! Nasira ulo ko!" - Lord_Leperman, when his AC's head blew up.
"Let's fight... like Fishermen" - Either Dcc and/or Sforza during their AC match, referencing prawns on both their nets while talking about AV idols and fighting AC at the same time.
*Most of Atdsum and Archangel's conversations were pretty quoteable along with Serene's crack one liners *
