Yes way.

Haha. It had to happen folks. I just never thought it would start from me... So my republicans... let's talk about the available OB cores in the game. What are the pros and cons of each?

RAKAN

pros - Low equip drain. Low-drain overboost. Great energy defense. Low OB Start-up heat (hidden stat).

cons - Ugly... okay fine let's call it "aesthetically challenged." Low shell defense. Low heat resistance. No CAMS

ATLAS

pros - Good overall stats. Very low-temperature overboost. Good heat resistance. Hangers provided.

cons - very slow overboost. only 16 optional part slots. No CAMS

HELIOS

pros - Excellent overboost power and acceleration coupled with low discharge heat and low OB start-up heat (hidden stat). Good heat resistance. Good energy defense.

cons - No CAMS. High equip drain. Drainy overboost. Low shell defense. Low AP

/UL

pros - OB only slightly inferior to HELIOS. Balanced defense. Balanced stats. Allows hangered weapons. CAMS provided. Doesn't break as often or as quickly as /UL2 (in my experience)

cons - somewhat overshadowed by non-OB stats of /UL2. Low heat resistance. Overboost runs hotter than many others. low AP

/UL2

pros - Balanced stats (which are better than most of /UL's stats). Good heat resistance. Good CAMS. Allows hangered weapons. Relatively light weight. 19 optional part slots. low-drain OB. Decent heat discharge and OB start-up heat (hidden stat).

cons - OB power is somewhat lacking. Tends to break faster than other OB cores (from my experience).

ICURUS

pros - Above average OB power and acceleration. Low discharge heat. High defense and AP for its weight. 20 optional part slots.

cons - ridiculous equip drain and OB energy drain. Very low heat resistance. Relatively heavy.

/U

pros - heavyweight stats. CAMS and Hanger provided. Low-heat OB.

cons - laughably slow overboost. Only 13 optional part slots.

EOS

pros - Best OB power and acceleration in the game. Heavyweight stats.

cons - high OB energy drain and heat.

high-accell cores are what matters to OB whores. Big grin

i think the atlas was meant for long-duration OB because of the poor accell, and would probably work well with gens like the fudoh or the g91.

It was made for long-duration OB, but the problem is its boost slows down after that initial acceleration, making it easier for opponents to keep you in their lockbox once they get a bead on where your general location is. That goes for the other OB cores as well, but the Atlas and the /U are the most serious offenders. Which is why aside from the obvious issue of massive drain, most people do not recommend OBing for a large period of time, rather in short bursts instead. Usually, this method of using the OB function requires slide jumping to make up lost energy.

I think what makes slide jumping most effective is that while your AC is in the air, it's the stationary drain, and not the moving one, that takes effect. Eh di ba usually mas maliit ang stationary drain for most parts? That effectively also reduces the amount of time you have to spend recharging energy. Also, and I've verified this for myself, you'll find that your AC really is unstunnable during the slide jump, if done correctly. As in zero effect ang mga 81G and RL shots sa stability mo, in the middle of the movement at least. Tongue

Anyway:

Rakan - Best used on lightweights and featherweights, as it's boost power is only effective in that weight class. Any more and OB starts to feel sluggish. Plus no hangers, so usually (and I said usually) ACs that use this core have long duration guns, like MGs.

Atlas - Supposedly the midweight OB core, but with that kind of speed it's best relegated to the trash can. Has decent defenses, but if you're equipping this, you should be equipping it for OB, as there are better cores out there for defense. This was golden in Nexus where its low heat allowed for easier OBing. Now in LR with increased generator capacities, it's just outclassed by all the others. I tried sticking to it in LR since my staple in NX and NB used this core, but I immediately found myself changing to the /UL and /UL2.
EDIT: I'm having second thoughts on this specific core. I'm trying it out on some light ACs and find that it provides decent acceleration and low OB drain for pretty good defenses.

Helios - Very good acceleration, and can keep up that speed for the duration of the OB. Only problem is like NiX said, maikli lang yung duration na yun. I find best use for this in blader designs. But if you're going up against dual gunners, that's a double black-eye: blader ka na nga, wala ka pang CAMS. Tongue

/UL - The general all-purpose OB core due to its sufficient power and high (but manageable) heat. With hangers too. Once it breaks though, oooh watch out, that heat spikes up real quick.

/UL2 - Coming up just behind the /UL in terms usability due to its lower heat rating, but slightly less powerful OB. Still, with the ability to store extra guns and an anti-missile system built in, you can't go wrong. Unless it breaks. Hehe.

Icurus - Just plain ridiculous. Drain so high for power so mediocre I can't even begin to bash it.

/U - Lol, it would be nice to see an Atlas-equipped AC fight a /U-equipped one. 'Nuff said. Tongue

Eos- Almost the only OB core that heavies can use. Great power, and a pretty low heat value make it a viable choice to pick for heavy humanoids or tanks. Some midweights can use this to great effect as well, combining godly hand weapons like the Sawa and RL with other tough frame parts. The only thing that balances this thing out aside from its weight is its lack of a hanger feature. Otherwise, this is great fun with the G69 generator and some jousting weapon.

Another drawback for Helios is it breaks easily. But the OB power makes up for it.

/U is probably one of the few OB cores that can be used while boosting around.

Actually, RAKAN and /UL2 work pretty nicely even when boosting around if you're using LOTUS+VULTURE2+ANANDA or LOTUS+B81+ANANDA.

The sad thing about /U is that when you OB, you're moving pretty much at the max ground boost speed of an AC with GULL or VULTURE2...

I've been trying hard to make a design built around the ICURUS core. But no matter how I look at it, the core just plain sucks! I really want to use it but there's just nothing good about it. >_<

The ICURUS sucks. An AC with ICURUS would probably do better not OBing at all than trying to use OB in battle, which is just sad.

As for the RAKAN, this core + B81 + Lotus + Ananda combo is probably the closest combination an AC can get to get SL-type OBing. I have a design that makes use of this, and it allows the AC to boost, OB while boosting, stop OB to boost, then OB in mid-air while boosting. Allowing the the OB slide -> jump, it works well. Of course, it's drawback is its low defense and no hangar option.

The /UL2, however, is probably the most overall balanced OB core. Decent everything, plus it has CAMs and a hangar function. It could fit in almost any leg-type design.

I'm not sure how accurate this is, but to add, RAKAN has the lowest OB start-up heat followed by the ATLAS. EOS and Icurus have probably the highest ones (will have to check when available). I guess we need a ranking for this.

How I wish there was a midweight OB core that was balanced in this game (ligtweight: /UL2, heavy: EOS).

Side note: I think a featherweight on TP or Pegasus can outrun an OBing AC on /U. Sad.

ATLAS is actually workable. /UL is pretty good if you really want powerful OB though.

As for ICURUS, probably the only way I'd be able to stomach it is if I pretend the other OB cores don't exist. But even then it'd be hard to swallow. XD

I admit, I fell in love with the thing called OVERBOOSTNinja, can't play AC if my design is not an OB frame, mostly Light-Mid Hybrid humanoid (seldom use other design format)

for me...

HELIOS - personal favorite, love the speed and accel, and the design of the core itself... stylish (I feel more challenge when i'm using this because of its lack of CAMS and defense)Jason

Reminds me of a Raven arena profile from AC3, a former street racer that likes OB due to teh 13333337 speed.

And yes, Moonlight_Raven is also addicted to cars. :p

Atlas in Silent Line (I think) is like the useful OB core, and I saw in Youtube, the Atlas, Lemur2, Dingo2 KRSW, Moonlight frame, but in LR...........I still do not know if it is useful, the Helios, UL, Rakan sucks, barely(on haven't used it) on a AC, the /U, to my opinion is the competitive part to Eos, tried it in my Suneye(Crest version) with the Fudoh Ananda Generator+Radiator combo, also I remember fitting it with a TP..........but that was a long time ago, the only OB core that I used is the Eos.


Just my experience with OB core(did I post the wrong one again??)

My personal opinion is that those OBs are the most worthy:

- EOS hands down, the best OB core in the game. It's somewhat not to heavy, has got LOW standard EN drain, HIGH AP AND HIGH DEFENSES. Something that's missing on most other cores. It's OB power is insanely good, and it doesn't heat that much (can work with CR-G91)

- HELIOS, lightweights love that thing. It just makes you go like a lightning bolt, in a few seconds to. The only thing you'll have to reproach it is the fact that it misses CAMS and is rather EN draining.

- /UL This core... Has got good and bads. Bads being that it's a bit heaby for a lightweight OB core... (imo) And it's got some heat issues... But hell, it's OB is all rounded and accelerates relatively fast

- /UL2 Ties up with EOS for the best OB core. Why would you ask? CAMS, Hangers, 19 Optional Parts, relatively low EN drain... That's all in one. Put that thing on a middle or a lightweight and you've got one heck of a good OB AC. It's also got relatively decent AP for a light OB core...

- RAKAN that's one good core I'll reckon, but /UL2 just beats it most of the time... Still, can be fun to use, or if you feel KISARAGI.

- ATLAS now, I've got to disagree that this core is bad. The following vid shows an AC that can relatively use the OB effectively (although I'm fighting an AI here and messing around a bit, you'll notice that I'm OBing fast enough)
You just need a light enough AC with CR-G91, and you'll get a sweet long duration OB with decent speed.

Well, AC is all about personal preference, but imo the ATLAS core's OB thrust is too slow to outmaneuver your opponent, and you'll need more mobility if you really want to gain the upper hand. I don't know, but I think players with good aiming skills may still catch you in their sights, even while OBing.

While it seems workable, I'll probably just stick to making underweight ACs, or get a better OB core. But then again, most of my ACs are already underweighted up to 480-500+kph, so it's probably just personal preference. Tongue
