Apparently not many programs support multi-core threading yet, so that is where a proc with higher clock shines more.

I only managed to find 1 article about this, can't remember where I read the others. Quad-core vs Dual-core Comparison

Jeff Atwood says the same thing: more cores != automatic better performance. The article is over a year old, but some of the sentiments are still relevant.
