Remember the banning of rape games in Japan? Well, it has been official now

So now it’s confirmed this time!

The emergency EOCS meeting involving almost 100 representatives from various eroge companies has just ended, and the final conclusion is that rape games are now banned.

According to the writer, there were surprisingly little objections to this, but rather there was an atmosphere among those who were present where many felt that there was probably no other way to solve this problem. Though due to the nature of the meeting they did not actually take a vote.

But this did not mean that were were no opinions that were voiced out, people such as the VisualArts chairman Baba, Morita from AIL, and ex-head director of Studio e.go Yamamoto Kazue have voiced some interesting opinions too.

However there was nobody that held the opinion that it’s absurd that they will have to ban rape games.

Rather, the concerns of many gathered around the exact details of what would be okay and what wouldn’t. That’s understandable as there are many makers that are concerned over the future of the games that are currently already in development.

The good news however, is that there's a "loophole" in it

Basically, although it has already been decided that they’ll ban rape games, the exact regulations and definitions of what is okay and what isn’t will be worked out and refined from here on out.

But for the time being the EOCS will work with each company individually till the exact regulations are made. Though, regulations on packaging and game titles will probably start to get a lot more stricter starting from tomorrow.

Still, whoever proposed the law should be hanged and burned on a stick. If they ban games like Fate/Stay night, I'm gonna RAGE

Next thing you know, they'll want any games with negative depictions of their race being banned on their home soil.

On the case of RAEP games I have the following to say:

1. The companies not putting up much of a resistance shows how strongly these companies support free speech and how defenseless they are against people who want to defend little imaginary girls.
2. I do know that there are just games that are freakin' weird or disturbing. As a result, I don't buy them. Lulz.
3. They'll probably stop at the creation of this "no more raep games" law because the supporting politicians know that they will be at a losing battle should they chase this crusade against porn any further. That's because the claim is that porn poisons the world and yet we all know that Japan has the least number of sexual harassment cases in the world. It's pretty much like weed. Amsterdam has one of the lower percentage of users because weed is legal, so it's not really looked upon as some "Forbidden Fruit" or whatnot out there.

Here's the funny part about this case though. The ones who keep on leading these movements against particular Jap porn (mostly porn games and stuff that involve loli) are from America, China and Korea. One of the heads of Unicef is Korean, and the feminist in China is some washed up TV personality. The Americans in the other hand is actually composed of a feminist group called "Equality Now." I don't know about you guys but my encounters with groups like this are normally a bunch of loons (from my experience anyway). It's strange that the American feminist group won't make a stand against EA or Capcom or Rockstar or something.

Anyway I'm not too worried. I'm sure they feel like they've done their difference in the world right now and it'll be a while before they try something big again. By that time the companies are likely to have more of a backbone.

It's a good call, IMHO. Both camps should just not go overboard anymore, they've found common ground already.

Also, I think most people who still want to intensify the law OR who want the law abolished are loons.

Personally, I don't like seeing raep if it involves DOMs or loli. Also, it isn't actually the material that's bad. It's the idea that comes along with it.
