It's just two volumes, set in contemporary Tokyo. It's just two volumes. I think most of you guys will be able to relate to the premise a lot, and it's a pretty good read.

Hrm. Let's talk about Graphic Novels in this thread since most of threads for individual titles don't get much attention anyway.

So far I've read Y - The Last Man, Watchmen, and a few others. I haven't read that many because I was into manga first.

I'm currently halfway through the Sandman series. Very interesting, well written stuff.

Anything else you guys can recommend?

Well, I'm surprised that no one's wrote about it yet. Anon got hold of a few super secret Scientology books and documents. It's all over the interweb, but you can get it here. Much thanks to lying asshat sforzando who's hosting it for great justice. He said he'll take it down in a week though.

Must reads include: The dictionary. The axioms. The book of case remedies.

"Crazy As Me" is a book written by Lim Yohwan, aka Slayers Boxer, aka the most legendary/iconic StarCraft player ever.

In his book, he talks about his struggles to get to the top. Regardless of whether you play StarCraft or not, you'll be able to relate for as long as you play video games.

The link above is his book translated to English care of some blogger.

EDIT: The whole book hasn't been translated yet though.

Wormwood: Gentleman Corpse

I'm really digging Ben Templesmith's style.

I just got Wormwood: Gentleman Corpse yesterday, and consistent with the Templesmith stamp, it's got lots of blood and dark palettes.

The premise of the whole series is of a possessed corpse going around with his sidekicks and pretty much blasting interdimensional beasties and demons back to the pits from whence they came.

Dialogue is genius. It's sparse, but Wormwood's (the worm in the corpse) sarcasm never runs dry.

I love it so much I'm actually going to buy(!) a copy when I find one here.

30 Days of Night

Right, so seeing the trailer piqued my interest. Enough to get the graphic novels (the entire set, in fact).

The basic premise of the series, if you haven't heard it from the movie trailer, is that there is a town in Alaska where the sun sets for 30 days, one whole month. Vampires hear about this, and so flock to the town since they can feed uninterrupted. What they didn't know was that the temperatures in the place would dull their senses, allowing their human victims-to-be some measure of hope. What ensues is a maelstrom of bloodbaths and a whole lot of red snow.

Browsing through gives you a pretty dark watercolor-like palette sweeping through the books. If you like something different from the usual comic book/manga art style where everything is clear-cut and outlined, you'll get plenty of it here.

Story-wise the original three books pretty much deliver a linear plot with some side trips, but that's all well and good since they were the first three books. The rest of the series goes on and expands on other themes and characters, but still under the general category of OMFGVAMPIRESAREHERE.
