Quote:Meiko and Taneda graduated from university for 2 years. Having no really goals or decision, they step into the society clueless. Meiko works as an Office Lady to pay off rent from her apartment, while Taneda works as an illustrator in a press company just to share Meiko's burden for the rent. While Taneda often meets up with his bandmates from their University days to jam, he still find something is missing. His bandmates know what was it: they need to step out, promote themselves and let their songs be heard to a larger crowd, which is their dream since their first meeting in their university's "Pop Music Club".

While they decide to break the rhythm of their "normal" graduate lives, its when two important things collide with each other: Meiko decides to quit her job, and Taneda decides to devote time to write his first proper song for his band. With such uncertainties and unpredictability, how would their lives lead to? And just when both Meiko and Taneda decides to let go of all worries and embrace such uncertainties and unpredictability, one tragedy happens, and changed both theirs' and their friends' lives.

So far I've read Y - The Last Man, Watchmen, and a few others. I haven't read that many because I was into manga first.

I'm currently halfway through the Sandman series. Very interesting, well written stuff.

Anything else you guys can recommend?

"Crazy As Me" is a book written by Lim Yohwan, aka Slayers Boxer, aka the most legendary/iconic StarCraft player ever.

In his book, he talks about his struggles to get to the top. Regardless of whether you play StarCraft or not, you'll be able to relate for as long as you play video games.

The link above is his book translated to English care of some blogger.

EDIT: The whole book hasn't been translated yet though.

EDIT 2: Here's an excerpt.

Quote:"Playing games with friends as a hobby and being a progamer are different. Obviously a progamer must play games well, but they must also play games that make it enjoyable for the people that are watching. A progamer does not hope to win through the mistakes of the opponent. Controlling the game with a strategy that I created, and winning with a scenario that I desired – that was the kind of victory that I hoped for."

I'm really digging Ben Templesmith's style.

I just got Wormwood: Gentleman Corpse yesterday, and consistent with the Templesmith stamp, it's got lots of blood and dark palettes.

The premise of the whole series is of a possessed corpse going around with his sidekicks and pretty much blasting interdimensional beasties and demons back to the pits from whence they came.

Dialogue is genius. It's sparse, but Wormwood's (the worm in the corpse) sarcasm never runs dry.

I love it so much I'm actually going to buy(!) a copy when I find one here.

Right, so seeing the trailer piqued my interest. Enough to get the graphic novels (the entire set, in fact).

The basic premise of the series, if you haven't heard it from the movie trailer, is that there is a town in Alaska where the sun sets for 30 days, one whole month. Vampires hear about this, and so flock to the town since they can feed uninterrupted. What they didn't know was that the temperatures in the place would dull their senses, allowing their human victims-to-be some measure of hope. What ensues is a maelstrom of bloodbaths and a whole lot of red snow.

Browsing through gives you a pretty dark watercolor-like palette sweeping through the books. If you like something different from the usual comic book/manga art style where everything is clear-cut and outlined, you'll get plenty of it here.

Story-wise the original three books pretty much deliver a linear plot with some side trips, but that's all well and good since they were the first three books. The rest of the series goes on and expands on other themes and characters, but still under the general category of OMFGVAMPIRESAREHERE.
