Hey there. You can now tag/mention people here in the forums by typing "@" and typing in a username in the box that pops up, much like Discord. They will in turn receive an alert that they can access at the top, near the link for the User Control Panel.

Speaking of, inside your Control Panel, you can also select the types of alerts that you want to receive, in case you want everything or nothing.

The current thing I'm looking into is to notify the user by email if they receive an alert, but that may be too annoying, really. So for now let's just have this tiny little additional function.

As a revamp of the old recognition system we had for PACT winners, we now have a semi-fully working medals system. I say semi-fully because there's some kinks to work out, but otherwise it works fine. EDIT: Was able to at least hack things into a useable state where nothing breaks.

Thanks to NiX for his hard work on creating the updated graphics!

Once a medal has been awarded to you, you can set/pin favorites under User CP > Miscellaneous > Manage Favorite Medals. Currently, you can show up to a maximum of 16 medals on your posts. We'll reassess in the future if this is too little/too much.

For now, past recipients have been awarded their proper medals, as follows:

Well now.

I'll be honest, I was a month away from shutting down the site. There hasn't been any legitimate notice from From Software regarding Armored Core for the past... 8 years or so. So like the rest of you, I had made peace with the fact that with the developer's success with their Souls and Souls-like games, the AC series we all grew up with and loved was just a time in the past to look back on and enjoy the memories of.

But then The Game Awards 2022 happened. To say that the news was warmly received by us is an understatement (in case you don't know what I'm talking about, first you must be pretty lost, and second, well, these threads can explain it better than I can).

In the last almost-decade I've kinda let this place run on autopilot, since, let's face it, the series was dead. But with that announcement, a glimmer of hope shines for all us mech/mecha/giant-fucking-robot fans. With the march of time and technology, there's lots of updates to be done, so please pardon our dust in the upcoming days and weeks. I'm also not blind to the fact that Discord and Reddit have pretty much displaced forums as the de-facto internet communication standard, but I think forums will still have their place, especially with a larger group of like-minded people.

So... welcome back, huh?

[OLD] RR v5! Board Upgrade Incoming!

Our forum software has just released a major new version, which basically gives me a perfect segue into a major revamp/cleanup of this place. Over the past couple of years I've noticed a lot of accumulated creaking and groaning on the dark corners of the entire site, and this is an opportunity for a fresh start again.

Also, it's perfect timing, since we're seeing a rash of inactivity anyway, this is the time to upgrade and break stuff without affecting anyone much. At best, the upgrade/cleanup process will be quick and you won't even know it happened. At worst, you'll still be able to use the board but some functions won't work. Even so, I think it'll be fine.

Expect it to happen sometime over the next two weeks. When it does, immediately the following stuff will be on the docket:

Updated forum skins. RavenTwilight and Old School are going first of course, and honest-to-God, they will be followed by something new. At last.
Use of ads. Don't worry, it won't be much or overly intrusive, but I'll put it there to help with the income stream a little.
General cleanup/update of subsites. Some of the stuff hasn't been used nor visited in ages. There's nothing wrong with that, but I'll consider removing some of the stuff if there's really no use for it. For the others, I'll just keep updating the versions so it's still there if someone wants to use it.
A working chat module. One that doesn't break after a week. Come back guys, and get off Skype!
I'm thinking of bringing these things back in one shape or form. You know, for the lulz.

As always, your suggestions/comments for our virtual home/crack den are welcome. I know by now must of us are old enough now to not really care about any of this stuff anymore (LOL don't worry, I know it's true), but that won't stop me from doing it.

[OLD] Mandatory Introductions and User Pruning now in effect.

As per request of the members, I've made a couple of changes to the boards which I hope will help in the long run:

1. Introductions are now mandatory. Upon registering, members will be able to see everything that most other members can see, but they will not be able to post replies. Only after they post/create a new thread in the Introductions subforum will they be allowed to post anywhere else.

2. In line with the above requirement, user pruning is now in effect. All users who have signed up but do not make a single post within three months will be automatically deleted by the boards.

I'd like to make it clear: this isn't an affront to those who like to lurk more than they like to post, this is a method to help this specific board's crusade against spambots.

If you have any concerns, let me know.

It's been a pretty quiet couple of months here at RR, mostly due to real life happening to me full-on. But don't fret, I haven't forgotten the goals that I've set down for updating/improving this place; they are still very much on the timeline.

1. Forum theme update - this goes hand in hand with updating the board's software to the next big version coming up, MyBB 1.6. It will add a lot of new features, or so I've been told, so I'm holding off on developing the new, clean and minimalistic white theme in fear of it being broken when we upgrade. But it's on the to do list. Sophie will be included in some way.

Don't worry, we're keeping the black ravenTwilight theme, but I'll be simplifying it even more. Sleek and simple is what I'm after.

2. Blog design update/cleanup - also been on the burner for a few months now. Aside from launching a better looking design (that'll be mostly white), I'll also be cleaning up the tags, editing a few posts that need it, etc etc. Sophie will also be included, of course.

3. Forum cleanup/moderation - I said before that I didn't want to delete posts. However, after growing to this size and having to take into account search engines finding our topics and discussions, I'm thinking some level of control needs to be put in now. Nix did this a while ago with one of the design threads, and I'm thinking it could be put into action into some of the other general discussion threads that are really going off tangent (not that I'm saying there are many, or that I don't enjoy/participate in them).

4. Smileys - I got a request from Raffy a long time ago about including some of the emoticons he posts (the one with the white character? what's that dude's name?). I'm still on the fence about it. In the meantime, any other smileys you'd like to include/prune from the list?

What do you guys think? As always, all of these are open for discussion.

Yeah, so it's up already.

If you have anything at all which is useful information about Armored Core, let the world know by putting it there, whether it's your original work or copy pasta from the net. Be sure to cite your sources, and do try to make your work fit in with the rest of the stuff. Also, please try to use straight English to be able to accomodate the maximum amount of people.

ER is protected by passwords, so contributors will have to contact me first to get it.

Now, about the format of the wiki:

Groups refer to larger chunks of data. To this end, I've created one group for every Armored Core game. Also, here we'll put the more overarching ideas behind the games, like general building tips, tactics that work quite well for the majority of the titles, and a complete(!) storyline.

Pages as you'd expect are for more specific topics, and this is where the articles actually go. Here goes the technical stuff, and other things more central to any certain game like stats.

The wiki has it's own documentation on the side if you need help, and a Sandbox page where you can experiment with whatever.

Basically, that's it. Enjoy!

As I recall a few members wanted this in the past but I turned the idea down. After careful consideration (also known as a spur-of-the-moment-thing), I've decided against cleaner thread titles by including an ability for you to describe the thread you're creating.

For example:

Thread Subject: H4LP!
Description: I'm being eated by spiderz!

or, less usefully by

Thread Subject: Need help with Evangel.
Description: His linear gun keeps stunning me and I need to overcome it.

Now, go and wreak havoc!

I'll be moving the place soon, so RR might be down for a while.
