My WTF Weekend

This past weekend, I went with my baby brother and 2 sisters to visit our relatives in our father's side of the family.
But weeks before that, I was told my uncle's [the one who gave me my laptop] gonna buy a new desktop pc. Why? His webcam doesn't work with it. I don't get the logic either. So I checked what's wrong, tweaked the settings. Fixed.

After that, we went to SM Fairview and Robinson's looking for a good bag for my baby brother. After we got one, we went to Bulacan, to where my father lives [long story] and had to spend the night there. So he had me check up some of his things. Another webcam that doesn't work because HE DIDN'T EVEN BOTHER INSTALLING IT. Well, it had to be installed while online to have drivers downloaded so I did just that. Done.

Next was a CPU he only had for a few months. He said it suddenly stopped working and might be grounded. He cleaned it so I was kinda worried that he might've cleaned it up to the microprocessor which, thank my avatar, he did not do. He told me that if I get to fix it, It's mine. I was guessing that it could be the motherboard's battery... and I was right. It's now fixed and in my room sitting there, waiting for a monitor.

Hahahanak ng... what that hell happened to my childhood heroes, basically the dude who taught me how to handle a soldering iron and the other who taught me how to handle a computer.

As for the monitor in my nonsense before this, I have to go back for it on Tuesday.

Anyways, the next day [Sunday] we have to go with them to their worship. I got to sit in the front, where their pastor could see the sleepiness and complete absence of interest in my face right beside the pastor's wife. Amazing. Whenever the pastor becomes zealous, he raises his voice, and guess what? I'm really close to their very large speakers. I have nothing against Born-Agains, but I really don't get their logic in the fellowship my father joined. Something that made me happy though is that they didn't force me to participate, so it shows that they at least respect my side of the faith, though I apologized to their pastor's wife just in case.

The rest of the day was smooth the trip back was quicker. I also decided to reconcile with my lola 4 months after an argument.

Rave:
My job hunting allowance is now secured. I can now go on hunting trips more frequently.

Well, we can't keep up with technological advancements forever... The exact same thing happened to one of my relatives (uncle) who was the family tech, he had pretty much stopped caring about it.

Rant/Rave 1:
Fall semester begins in two weeks, better enjoy the peace while it lasts.

Rant/Rave 2:
A few items disappeared, either they are lost during the last redecoration - or we may have a thief who has a preference for (largely outdated) playing cards.

LOL yeah, keeping up with tech is tiring. And eventually you realize it's, in a way, pointless.

Well, at least keep up with how to do maintenance.
I mean, even if tech advances 10 years worth, it doesn't mean you'll have to learn a new set of repair and maintenance skills every year or every time you upgrade. They're usually the same super basic stuff that only need to develop a variation of during advances.
Buti na nga lang hindi inatake nung nalaman nya na may baterya pala ang mga motherboard eh.

I mean just do a google search for what you need when you actually need to do it. Constantly updating yourself is just a waste of time if it isn't your job. Or you can always pay for cheap labor to do it for you if you have more valuable things to do with your time. Smile

Cheap labor isn't exactly cheap if the person to do the stuff for you lives 3-5 cities away and had travel for 2 hours just to fix whatever it needs setting's settings. The call-in guy's time is precious too or maybe it's just me.

Nah, ok lang naman eh. As long as it's worth the time, it's fine. I didn't mark it as rant or rave since it was both and mostly a good day for me anyways.

It was OK because I already got stuff in return eversince last year and in a way, I'm doing stuff for them in exchange.
My sibs and relatives also managed to finally see each other after 10 years. I got a new tower [ika nga ni Mark: 'tanginang kaswertehan yan'] and secured a hunting allowance.

BUT it could've been a let down if I went there immediately after receiving the message from weeks ago. So there was no time and money wasted because everything was done in one pass with everybody happy and content. Happy

As for the tower, let's just say my dad owes me a lot.

I mean if there's no one else within the vicinity who has the skills that you do, you might as well make a sideline out of it.

There's two in their area and people here are knowledgeable.
They only call on me since Antlan's got a day job.

I don't have skills, I just apply what I know which is not a lot. Luckily for me, all I get are easy requests. I reject jobs better left to real technicians.

But that's a good idea Nix. I think there somewhere near here that offers lessons on computer repair. I'll set it as a last resort if I still don't find a job until next year..
