My sentiments exactly, only that my case is on the LRT rather than the MRT. Still the same shitty passengers though.

news is saying theres another push for a fare increase for the MRT. i kinda hope it pushes through. those trains really need repairing.

The notion that the they'll improve the service once the prices go up is kinda off for me. They should at least prove to us NOW that the service deserves a higher price point. As long as the LRT and MRT continue to display their pathetic service and constant failures on RUSH HOUR of all times, then they don't deserve to get higher prices. I myself won't want to pay an additional 15-20 php for the same shitty and pathetic service I'm getting now.


I know that normally, once we pay higher(in a non corrupt country), that the service will naturally improve, but here, you never know, the money could just be pocketed here and there. Also, ever since I got to ride the LRT from 2004, the service has just gotten shittier. That, and the thing is, prices before were EXACTLY the same, but they had marginally better service back then(also, they had less trains, and older ones before, while now, there are more trains and newer ones to boot). So there, they must at least show to us and make the commuters get service that will make us say: "wow, this is world class/very good service, I wouldn't mind paying extra for this as this is convenient" before making any sudden price changes.

true, it would be ideal to see the improvements first. however theres the issue that MRT is actually in debt and that government is actually subsidizing part of its operation fee. until it can pay for its own operations taxpayers will be shouldering costs just to keep its shitty operation running. the system will have a hard time improving anything in that situation.

as for the service dropping over the years, its to be expected. prices for maintaining it went up over the years due to more people using it, and prices for energy generation. however, its income didnt change. its obvious they cut corners just to keep it running.

I don't know man, the very fact that it is subsidized means that they could definitely improve parts of the service here and there. I don't really ride the MRT though.

I don't see prices for train operations going up over the years as there is no marginal difference in how a train operates regardless of how many people ride it, or how many people stay in the stations to ride a SET number of trains in a SET sequence between stations. |They don't run faster or more just because there are more people-they run exactly the same pace(people just cram more in the train) hence not much in a way of increasing maintenance values for each train due to more people-they didn't really increase the number of ticket slot machines too. THAT, and for the energy generation issue, the shortened service hours(cut about a hour 30 mins from 11 to 930 last train departure) mean that there's less overall train operation, meaning that there isn't much in a way of increased operation cost. If it did go higher, it really didn't increase that much if at all compared to a few years back. Only difference is that the service got epicly shittier, which will make the hike somewhat of a hard sell for people who experience it's shittiness everyday...like me.
