If you follow the series of titles that have been coming on the Wii on an annual basis. You'll see that Nintendo is trying to create a stronger fan-base by expanding its types of games from casual to semi-hardcore, and probably inch its way to being hardcore.

To be honest I think hardcore games is the real foundation behind a strong console, because you don't have to be an avid player of that game to play a hardcore game. Me, for example, would play Dead Space upto hard mode only and not go further, while somebody else might decide to dominate the game on its hardest difficulty settings. Yeah, we spend a different amount of time on it, but we both still love the game.

I'm not sure if they took this long to figure it out or decided to take it really slow, but the DS is far more popular than the Wii. For one I think it has an immense amount of JP only released games that are pretty awesome, most of them with the capability of being pretty damn hardcore, or if you like, just stay casual (see: Ouen-dan, Pheonix Wright, Jump Ultimate-Stars, Bleach, uhh that hospital game, there's a lot.).

Now I looked at some of the third party companies that went to them, I noticed three of them were Square Enix, Vanillaware and the ones who made Monster Hunter. These compaines are known for making games that are cool looking and require at least a fair amount of grinding. It even seems like they're seriously trying to take the graphics engine to the limit. I think they're trying to match at least PS2 graphics. With that they might even come up with a controller similar to a PS2's. In the near future I see it being looked at as a cheap and easy to use unit that's compatible with a lot of gadgets. If the rather promising upcoming titles it brings up delivers the Wii might get back into the game against the new consoles.

Epic performance by both of em.
This is also a punishment for you.

you won't be able to live as yourself.
You will sacrifice all your happiness for the world.. Eternally..
