Serene, I really want to share your belief. However, where's the proof?
In the ideal world, having a completely balanced game may be true. It's like saying that everyone in the world is good. Unfortunately, I don't see things that way. I don't think it's a lack of imagination on the part of designers... It's merely the balancing of the game that's the problem. If it were true that every part is usable, then I'd like to see designs sporting an Ettin and the first radiator winning our upcoming tournament, or any tournament for that matter. All these are only opinions of mine, of course; Opinions that would actually make me happy if they were disproved.
