RE: Teh interesting tech news stub thread - Sforza - 05-25-2008 Wired has this series out entitled, "Lamest Fetish Items Ever: 1993-2006" I thought it was going to be about sexual fetish items but it wasn't xD It was actually about useless tech items that were thought to be quite good/useful for the time. Here's the link to the 1993-'95 gallery. There are links for the rest on the page. It was pretty funny for me. http://www.wired.com/techbiz/media/multimedia/2008/05/ff_15th_fetish1 RE: Teh interesting tech news stub thread - Lord_Leperman - 05-29-2008 A couple of future media storage formats (might invade our home systems soon... or not): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holographic_Versatile_Disc The HVD: Quote:Holographic Versatile Disc (HVD) is an optical disc technology that would hold up to 3.9 terabytes (TB) of information. It employs a technique known as collinear holography, whereby two lasers, one red and one green, are collimated in a single beam. The green laser reads data encoded as laser interference fringes from a holographic layer near the top of the disc while the red laser is used as the reference beam and to read servo information from a regular CD-style aluminum layer near the bottom. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holographic_Versatile_Card Holographic Versatile Card: Quote:The Holographic Versatile Card (HVC) is a data storage format by Optware; the projected date for a Japanese launch had been the first half of 2007, pending finalization of the specification, however as of March 2008, nothing has yet surfaced. One of its main advantages compared with discs is the lack of moving parts when played. They claim it will hold 30GB of data, have a write speed 3 times faster than Blu-ray, and be approximately the size of a credit card. At release, the media will cost about ¥100 (roughly $1) each, reader devices are set to cost about ¥200,000(roughly $1800) while reader/writer devices are to cost ¥1 000,000 (roughly $9000) each. RE: Teh interesting tech news stub thread - Shintetsu - 05-29-2008 Wow. Then we wait until it's cheap enough to buy, then there comes another better format. lol RE: Teh interesting tech news stub thread - Sforza - 06-12-2008 PS3 draws five times as much power as an average refrigerator. http://www.switched.com/2008/06/04/playstation-3-draws-more-power-than-a-refrigerator/ RE: Teh interesting tech news stub thread - Grim - 06-14-2008 BMW creates a morphable, fabric-covered car. But, ![]() RE: Teh interesting tech news stub thread - Twin-Skies - 07-09-2008 Iran: Bad blogging can mean your head. Literally. Quote:Blogging about the wrong topics in Iran won't just get you censored; it could get you killed. Iran's parliament voted last week to discuss a draft bill that would "toughen punishment" for a number of crimes that it believes to be detrimental to society by making them subject to the death penalty. This list already includes crimes like armed robbery, rape, and leaving the religion of Islam (apostasy), but running a blog or website that promotes corruption, prostitution, or apostasy may soon be added. As crazy as this may sound, thank God the RP's own authorities are probably too stupid to ever try something like this.
