It's just that it's a tournament, and music that you don't particularly don't listen to would definitely skew your concentration. Just saying, man.

mmm... I don't know. Maybe bring earphones instead? If you gain a little extra while playing if you listen to music(I'm sort of like that, and iirc so is Rick), I'd suggest bringing a set of phones so others/your opponent, particularly, won't get too distracted from the music.

Back to the date, earlier would probably be better. Most of us are still in school, and we wouldn't be quite as swamped were the tourney held this month. Which means we'd be more likely to attend.
School folks are never really as swamped as they think they are.
If there's a will, there's a way. If there's an RR meet and you really wanna go, you'll always come up with a way to attend.
