I think it's to fall in line with the ifv variant. If it's THAT long, we can prolly expect insane troop carriage capacity.
So far Russia, Japan, choina, Poland and Turkey have new MBTs. I think the British will be developing a new one too.

I read defense articles a lot and so far no plans to develop a new one, or to even update their challenger 2s. it is a fine, fine tank, but it needs more upgrades at this point.
