The rules are simple: Pick an AC you own, and pit it against another AC. Just post the links to the designs, and we'll handle the rest.

When you've made your choice, Nix and I will be studying both ACs and fight to the death when the closest opportunity comes! It's like a combination Fantasy Tournament and Challenge Duel.

For Example:

Please declare which AC you wish to fight by picking out a design in the designs forum.

NiX Wrote:I would like to use Osiris: http://ravenrepublic.net/forums/showthread.php?tid=273
Vs.

Lord_Leperman's Halimaw: http://ravenrepublic.net/forums/showthread.php?tid=848

Nix and I will probably swap designs after the first match and see which wins. In case of a draw, the 3rd match ACs pilots will be decided by a coin toss. Results will be recorded on video and posted.

We're doing this for fun btw, so don't take the results personally or be the end judgement if the AC is better or not. We may not be piloting to maximize your AC designs, so maybe if you can, give us some tips on how to use the ACs.

So with that start making designs, and post away!

A pain to read, yeah? But just showing you that they play a different game.

Here's a summary from what I understood:

ecms - banned
RS - tanks only
HP - can't be hangered except if you're a tank

TP, Vulture, Vulture2, gull, T2 - yep none of them can be equipped.
Can't understand the birdie2 thing, but I think it's saying that underweighted ACs can't use Birdie2.

Basically, they're playing a MUCH slower game. I'm not exactly sure why they opted for this though. Maybe to level things better for tanks and hovers? To increase the value of OB? To counter LR's inherent inaccuracy? I'm not really sure. But it's a big contrast to the rules used by the english-speaking community. It's all very interesting.

What I really liked is the ability to thumb down maps though. We should have used something like that ever since.

Your thoughts?

Old rules as drafted by Lord_Leperman:

Quote:Standard 2-on-2 rules (draft, open to discussion):

Standard PACT rules and regulations apply.
Standard PACT part bans for LR still apply.

Game format:
-Team Battle with no leader in the options setting.
-5 minute rounds, best of 5 for the finals.

Team pairing process: Depends on available participants.
Rules are added to facilitate 2-on-2 matches:

1. Two contestants may enter as a team, with 1 AC for each person, for a total of 2 ACs per team.

2. Team members may switch places between the two (Essentially, a teammate uses his teammate's AC and vice-versa) at any time during the tournament at the team's own risk. Any alterations in AC design are prohibited except for swapping paint jobs and emblems.
After PACT 5, I think some changes are in order, no?

Rule # 2 seemed fun at the time when Leperman and I discussed it. But thinking about it now, I don't like it. I don't like the idea of overriding my partner's playing, aside from simply providing advice. I don't think any team took advantage of this rule during PACT 5, though. Not a big deal. I personally won't exercise it, by principle.

A major issue that needs discussing is the use of Orbit Cannons. As was expertly demonstrated by the Ting brothers, a pair of OCs simply MELTED heavy tanks. While there are several countermeasures against missiles, heavy tanks simply have no way to defend against the OCs.

After the tournament, Leperman suggested that there should only be at most 1 HARPY per team, while HARPY2 should get banned completely. I'm cool with that.

Because more than 50% of our active population wanted it, it's finally been decided that PACT 5 will use a two-on-two format. But now, because of the untested nature of this format, it looks like another poll is needed.

Based on what's been discussed before, let me present you with three ways to determine the team-ups:

1. Predetermined team-ups - Look for a partner before the tournament and develop a strategy together.

*Note: What happens if your partner fails to show up though?

2. Randomized team-ups - Lots will be drawn (or we can use some other randomizing method) on the tournament date to determine the pairings. No restrictions. Time will be allotted for strategic discussion between the newly formed teams.

3. Randomized TIERED team-ups - Same as option 2 except that the 1st/2nd/3rd-placers from all previous PACT tournaments cannot end up as teammates.

All previous placers:
Lord_Leperman (PACT 1,2,3)
NiX (PACT 1,2,3)
Twin-Skies (PACT 1)
Maitreya (PACT 2)
Sforza (PACT 3,4*)
Ethermaster (PACT 4)
Moonlight_Raven (PACT4)
*atdsutm (PACT 4)

If you can think of a better tiering system, please suggest it.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Predetermined teams would have been awesome. But still, I voted for option 3 since it's obviously the most balanced choice.

Final Plans:

Random selection of partners starts at 1:00 PM. But previous PACT placers cannot partner with each other. Their starting points on the bracket will be predetermined.

As soon as everyone has a partner, there will be one hour for preparing/modifying ACs and strategizing.

During the preparation time, each pair will be given a maximum of 15 minutes on a PS2 to modify their ACs. The pair declares their ACs for use and a marshal checks them for PACT-compliance. We're only using standard PACT rules.

We'll be pretty strict with this 15-minute thing so please at least have a good idea of what ACs you'll want to use. This time will only be for MINOR ADJUSTMENTS and for synergizing with your partner.

Other rules are just the usual. Banned maps as before. Bunutan para sa map every round. Best of 3 for the regular matches and best of 5 for the finals, 5-minute time limit, blah blah.

Most probably no need for AP-point system in this one. Magulo pa eh.

For the brackets, we'll use those indicated in tournamentdesign.org
If 5 pairs enter - triple elim
If 6-8 pairs - double elim

As soon as everyone has already declared their ACs, the tournament can begin. Let's set it at 2:30 PM.

Tournament itself will probably take around 4 hours.

It's been more than half a year since anything happened here. With the recent talks about AC going active again, maybe it's time we think on what platform the next PACT would be on?

This is just a survey, not a decisive thing. Maybe it's about time we had some serious AC action again.

LR is possibly still far-by the most accessible (and most understood) AC game for us all here. We know how it works, and we know how to make good ACs and matches. The boards itself basically grew up on this AC game.

FA.. Well, the world's going next gen. Problem is, only a few people have the game, or can play the game regularly. With multiple regulations, we'd have to pick up the best one for tournies. An advantage of this is game, skill-wise for tourneys, I think the playing field is kinda even.

Or, we can go retro with an older incarnation. How would we fare if we went SL or MoA or AA? I like this idea, but it'll be a lot of work for us. Again, availability of the game(s) would be a problem, since they're much older. And also, we'd have to make PACT regulations for the game(s). Unlike LR, where we have established regulations, FA which can use online regulations, older incarnations would be needing time and tests to make regulations.
