They also did it for the sake of balance. That's the main point behind it IMO, but it's also conveniently supported by that theoretical concept that Crimson said.
Personally, I'm on jonevangelist's boat here (or at least I think so, by the way he's speaking
). There should be some back weapons that you can use on bipeds without them having to kneel, aside from missiles and rockets... maybe some of the weaker back cannons? Picking trashy backmounts for use on bipeds in a Plus-style manner would help diversity and the percentage of parts that are actually used.
But I know, that's a dream reserved for an AC game and a GameShark, or for AC4 only. The balancing issues would be a nightmare. This is From we're talking about. Plus, the quad and tank lovers would just hiss and boo like there's no tomorrow, not to mention the countless veterans of the game just packing up and leaving.
