Figures/Model Kits
Okay, no new pics from anyone at all, might as well show pics of what i've been working on since last Thursday. This one is a hybrid with parts and weapons from four different kits and weapon sets. Its a slight mod of the Omega from my garage, since i didn't want to use the URANUS core for this one and i don't have an SR head. I did take some liberties with the color scheme but only on the arms. Still not much improvement from my previous works but at least i had better equipment to work with this time.

As shown, that's the core from the Nineball kit, the arms and laser blade from the U3 kit, the head and legs from the U2 kit, the linear rifle and extensions from the GAEA kit and missile launchers from a couple Weapon Set #2s. The emblem came from a decal sheet i had lying around. This AC was my main mission mech from when i i first started playing LR, and the color scheme is (almost) the exact same one still on my savefile.

Now that the Nephilim's done, i'm left with several incomplete kits. Up next will either be the Deucalion or the Astraea.

The colors remind me of space marines from Warhamer 40K for some reason, and the dual KINNARAs almost look like the PEGASUS in the picture, thus making it look like SL's intro AC (not to mention that the RL looks like the KSAW in terms of shape Tongue). Nice job on that one. Have you ever tried doing some weathering effects on your kits btw? It might look good on this one.

@Fox: Hehe, parang familiar s kin ung core unit mo ah(hehe). Nice job on the kit dude, this thread inspired me yet again to do something diff in my nxt prjct..

As Leperdude said, you cud get into weathering effects(that cud be awsomeness in the making), but personally I think you cud put sum aditional linings on that also(jst a sugestion)

Nice work dude. The XS arms are really giants in the models.

So you dismantled Cascade Range to build this one?

@Lepermensch

Like this one maybe?

Yep, the color scheme is indeed WH40K-inspired, specifically a combination of pre- and post-Heresy colors for the Dark Angels. As for doing some weathering for the Neph, i dunno. I'm not really skilled enough to apply weathering or battle-damage effects. The best that i can do is take some silver or gray paint and add it to the edges of kits to simulate paint chipping and that's pretty much the best that i can do. I'll try to read up on some other techniques to please you guys though. Big grin

@DT
Hmmm, it does look rather familiar. I think i bought it from someone though i can't realyy remember just who it was. Tongue

The pics were taken a few hours after all the paints had dried up, thus the model looks a little shiny. I also haven't added any panel lines just yet. Further detailing will be done later when i get a new marker to do lines with. Right now, i'm perfectly happy with the factory/garage-fresh look.

@Grim
If you think the XSs are huge, you should see the LANGURs (tama ba) belonging to NineBall and the URANUS kit, those things are supposed to be lightweights but they're even bulkier than the XS.

Safly, my Cascade Range is but a memory right now, existing only in pictures and on a certain someone's Friendster account. I do regret having to tear him apart but it had to be done. Now i'm in the process of tearing apart Dual Face and Oracle to be used as parts to build the Astraea.

For the good of my collection, some sacrifices have to be made!

Well finally someone is building some customized ACs.
Is that handpainted? Try mo mga flat colors instead of gloss-ish.

Kaya pala parang may mali dun sa itsura nya eh, thanks for pointing that one out. Yeah, those pics were taken a few hours after everything had dried so it still looks rather... makintab. Funny thing is that the shinyness only appears on camera, in real life, everything looks just dull.

It's not handpainted but apparently i still need to improve my work using aerosols. I did use flat black for the dark pieces but it still appears shiny in places . Any suggestions for dampening down the shinyness?

And here's another example of a perfectly good waste of money...

That's the physical incarnation of the Auriga AC i used for last year's PACT II with a couple of alterations since there is no SATYROS and no U4 being made in plamo form, so i had to make do with a HYDRA and a U2. The original color scheme was off-white with gray trim but i decided to try out a white/silver scheme for this. The silver i intend to make shiny with some scratches once i get some more sandpaper but i plan to dirty up the white parts once i learn some proper weathering techniques.

I took some liberties with the forearms on the MACAQUE, instead of the silver pieces near the elbow facing inwards, i had them sticking outwards diagonally, simply because they looked more interesting that way. The really sucky part is that i couldn't get the shoulder pads to properly stick together even when i had gotten rid of some of the excess plastic inside. So that explains those horribly-obvious gaps, which i will devote some time to finally learning how to use putty to cover up seams and gaps.

Well, that's my installment for this week. Hopefully, i'll get to work on either the Deucalion or the Hecate after next payday.

Fox out.

I'd have to say this is probably your best paintjob yet dude. The color scheme looks spot-on for an AC, and white and silver just feel right. Big grin

Maybe the camera's flash is turned on that's why you're getting that shinyness. I think it's best to take photos during daytime.
Anyway i think you've made the right choice of colors for this one.
I also noticed you panel-lined some areas in the other pictures.
I hope you'll keep on improving. Maybe try some gap-filling/ sealing next time.

Hey, thanks for the comments guys, glad to know that you think i'm improving. Thanks for the tips as well, i'll try not using the flash from now on.

Question though - where can you buy styrene from? I've ben looking at some of the extra parts that i've got and was thinking that they could do with a bit of modding. I might want to try my hand at building some scratchbuilt parts or at least modifying some existing ones. Is styrene available from hardware stores or from the hobby shops themselves?

Why not ask the guys from mechapinoy where they get their supplies. iirc some modelers use old credit cards when plastic sheets are unavailable.

I would have if only my log-in was working properly. For some reason, requesting for password recovery doesn't seem to be working.

Cards eh? Maybe i can try carving up some of my old ATM cards for gun handles then...
