Any techies here?

I'm thinking of buying a new phone later this year because my Nokia 3660's lack of RAM is really starting to piss me off. I've accumulated around 3000+ messages in one folder and the 3660 crashes whenever I even attempt to delete them. Well yeah, my fault for storing that many messages... but come on.

So basically, I'm looking for a smartphone/PDA-Phone with good multimedia, productivity (apps for editing MS office files and opening PDFs), and connectivity features. A good camera and a full QWERTY keyboard are big pluses for me too. Phone size and weight are are irrelevant. The bigger the screen and the keys, the better.

So far, I'm interested in the following:

1. Nokia N95 & Nokia E90 - Both have pretty much everything I could ask for. The N95 has an awesome camera but the E90 has an awesome screen and keyboard. Unfortunately, both are really expensive. -_- (Php40,000+ unlocked)

2. Nokia E61i - The camera and music features aren't so good, but it has everything else I'm looking for. It's a bit more affordable too at somewhere below Php20,000 when unlocked.

3. Sony Ericsson W810 - The camera and music features are really good but it lacks the other features I'm looking for.

4. Nokia N73 - Great camera and music features and a viewer for MS office files and PDFs but no Wireless LAN. Within budget though. It's probably a toss-up between this and the E61i for me...

5. Nokia N80 - It's a bit better than the N73 because of Wi-Fi but with an inferior camera. Its price is good too but with the N95 out, this one just just pales in comparison.

6. Sony Ericsson P990i - Great camera and music player, I saw this phone and found out that it does pretty much everything I want. I also found out that its original price has really dropped. Right now, the only thing keeping me from finally deciding on buying this one is that it looks like shit.

Conclusion: Yeah, I'm looking for a phone that can do it all. Unfortunately, the phones that can do everything are quite expensive. LOL Should I just wait it out until better options come along? Or does anyone know of cheaper alternatives? Tongue

Well, the first thing that comes to mind with what you want is the O2 PDA. Personally I think the <a href='http://www.ebay.ph/listResults?browse=0&Query=o2+xda+mini&Submit=Find+it&SearchWorldWide=0' target='_blank'>Mini</a> is the bomb.

If you want something newer but arguably more expensive, <a href='http://www.seeo2.com/product/XdaAtomLife/template/Product.vm' target='_blank'>Xda Atom Life</a>. I dunno how much it costs here right now though.

Aside from that... well, <a href='http://www.thebestpageintheuniverse.net/c.cgi?u=iphone' target='_blank'>Maddox</a> provides some comic relief.

Hahah yeah I've considered those. As well as some Palm ones.

My lock-in period with Globe is expiring around October and I'm planning to make a switch to Smart. That's really why I'm considering a new handset.

[bitching]It's just annoying how these manufacturers simply sell the same product in different packages (i.e. a lot of them are running on the S60 OS) with only different combinations of locked and unlocked features. -_- And even though they can already implement certain features into current phones, they intentionally leave them out so that they can produce an "upgrade unit" (see 3660, E61i, etc.) later on, which is essentially the same thing even a year after, only that they can price it as if it were "new." The N95 is a phone that shows that if the manufacturer wanted to, they COULD cram all the features of all their phones into one (except maybe the battery life)... but it's freaking expensive.[/bitching]

LOL maybe i'll just have to wait until N95-like phones (hopefully with a QWERTY keyboard) become standard-issue. 2 years? Waaah!

Single most enlightening blog post about cellphones I've ever read.

If you keep up with all the iPhone, Pre, Android blah blah, read this.

Yeah, that's the thing. Pretty much all the tech sites we go to like gizmodo, engadget, cnet, etc., feature stuff from the US market. And as described in the article that I linked, the US phone market is inherently different from the rest of the world. What's "best" over there isn't necessarily applicable to the rest of the world. But yes, what's currently going on in wireless in the US is becoming more relevant to the rest of the world now more than ever.

*revives thread*

I just bought a new SE G705 on the cheap here (I needed a secondary phone for my canadian number). Still setting it up, but the feature set is pretty good. The total came to about 10k pesos.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sony_Ericsson_G705

It has wifi, GPS, 240x320 resolution, and a lot of other random little things.

Has anyone heard about this phone before? I definitely haven't.

Yeah I know it. It's a bit old, and it doesn't have a smartphone OS, but it's pretty good overall. And for 10k, that's not bad at all.
