Teh interesting (non-PHL-related) news stub thread
Hm. I'm guessing the drama before that act is a lot more than any normal person can handle. Yeah it's really nice to know that when people get big names there are still those who retain their humanity.

Pixar grants girl's dying wish to see 'Up'
http://www.ocregister.com/articles/pixar...-home-show

Quote:Colby Curtin, a 10-year-old with a rare form of cancer, was staying alive for one thing - a movie. From the minute Colby saw the previews to the Disney-Pixar movie Up, she was desperate to see it. Colby had been diagnosed with vascular cancer about three years ago, said her mother, Lisa Curtin, and at the beginning of this month it became apparent that she would die soon and was too ill to be moved to a theater to see the film. After a family friend made frantic calls to Pixar to help grant Colby her dying wish, Pixar came to the rescue.

The company flew an employee with a DVD of Up, which is only in theaters, to the Curtins’ Huntington Beach home on June 10 for a private viewing of the movie.

The animated movie begins with scenes showing the evolution of a relationship between a husband and wife. After losing his wife in old age, the now grumpy man deals with his loss by attaching thousands of balloons to his house, flying into the sky, and going on an adventure with a little boy.

Colby died about seven hours after seeing the film.

Pixar officials declined to comment on the story or name the employees involved.

It was great for Pixar to actually fly someone over with the movie and then give souvineers. They didn't even want credit for the act by saying no comment to the media. Didn't know corporations could still act that way.

For self benefit or not, the fact that they granted the person's wish like that is something not so easily done. My hat's off to Pixar for this kind of act.

Don't wanna sound preachy but I'm surprised the Iran election protests hasn't been discussed here at all. I think everyone should at least try and find out what's going on, to appreciate the country you live in in spite how bad things may seen. Be thankful for democracy.

Here's a list of 10 Incredible Videos taken by regular people. #9 should come with a warning, as it's extremely graphic.

More details on the #9 video.

Indeed. If the Philippine government wasn't a democracy, then we would have went waay past that, long ago.

I hope Neda finds peace wherever she goes Sad

Many of us here get our news from other sites, or the newspapers or other message boards. That's probably why no one bothered to start a thread for all the Iran stuff. Besides, media all over is already covering it more than anything else right now. There's no real way to be "ignorant" about it.

But with that said, I know that Iran definitely needs our support. The Philippines, come election time, might have to deal with some similar bullshit.

Watched the Neda video earlier by way of Huffington Post.

I've actually been tweeting a lot about this since it started, to the point that I'm worried people might unfollow me for concentrating on it so much.

There's really not much to say, aside from the many parallelisms that can be drawn with Philippine history starting with the first People Power revolution.

Though, for someone who doesn't even have anything to do with whatever riot was going on there, to be shot at random, is just sick.

I can't condemn anyone anyway, I'm just overreacting because I saw what happened. But still..

Man. I'm not sure what to say about this, but from what I've been getting in other news it seems the protests are becoming rather successful. Some of the military is already sympathizing with the public which is a good thing.

"I said this part, the top, is ok, but not the rest," Kimberley Vlaeminck from the city of Kortrijk, 90 km (56 miles) northwest of Brussels, told Belgian broadcaster VRT.

The 18-year-old said she fell asleep during the procedure, and woke up in pain when her nose was being tattooed.

Shaq gets traded to the Cavs for Big Ben and Pavlovic

This is a big move for the Cavs, and could potentially revive Shaq's game a bit like when he moved to the Heat a couple of years ago. Of course one may argue he wasn't as old then as he was now, and that's a fair point. Still, I see the Cavaliers making the Conference Finals again this coming season.

Also, poor Pavlovic - he's been a solid player off the bench for the Cavs over the years, and now he's saying bye-bye. LOL
