I started work on an old HGUC Gelgoog around a couple weeks ago. It wasn't even a new kit. Rather, I got it from Trace-02 sometime back in 2010 after he had bought it from an ukay-ukay somewhere in QC. The kit was missing a lot of stuff, including verniers, a backpack, a proper rifle-gripping hand, the clear mono-eye piece, etc, etc. I raided my scrapbox to replace a lot of the missing parts but ended up kitbashing and scratchbuilding stuff, including the hands and the backpack.
Originally, this was supposed to be painted in Herbert Von Kuspen's colors from the MS Igloo: Apocalype OVA, which was supposed to a light gray on-medium-gray and dark gray scheme. Problem is, the light gray i used (Armored Komodo's Harbor Gray) came out a few shades darker when it dried. The decals were improvised. Since there isn't any official decal sheet produced by Bandai, i had to get creative with the caped-skull logo that Von Kuspen has on his Gelgoog. I think it turned out alright.
Painting was a combination of spraycans, airbrushing and handbrushing. The kit was primed with Bosny's primer gray. Most of the body was airbrushed with Armored Komodo's Harbor Gray, Slate Gray and a 1:1 combo of Slate Gray and Charcoal Black. Beam saber and rifle was also airbrushed with ArKom Gunmetal Black. The dark gray on the feet was Vallejo Game Color Heavy Charcoal while the backpack and joints were done with Vallejo Dark Sea Gray.
I'm cutting short work on this one as I want to move on to other stuff. Just the topcoat left to do.
