I'm sure at its current state it's not as good as the more established tank games. The thing is, Armored Warfare has that potential to draw a bigger crowd than WoT or WT (Granted they both are aces within their niche) but PvE in itself was already something that caught my attention.
In any case, some of your worries are addressed (one via stopgap at least).
Patch .11 buffs up many of the lacking MBTs (Challenger 1, C1 Ariete, upper half of the Leopard line, M1 fixed model, T-72 and T-72A frontal armor fixes).
Also, as a stopgap for the spotting system, most of the Tier 9 MBTs (With the notable exception of the T-90MS) had their spotting ranges buffed up to AFV levels. The Leopard 2A6 (436m) almost has the same spotting range as the Warrior AFV (440m), and even higher with The M1A2 (482m) making AFV camo the only thing that's saving them from getting shot at long range.
Of course these are just placeholder values based on screenshots I found in Armored Talk (http://armoredtalk.com/2015/11/06/tier-9...11-update/)
