Church warns celebrities on endorsing condoms

MANILA, March 10, 2010— A ranking official of the Catholic Church is asking celebrities to be more cautious in endorsing condoms, saying they could became accomplice in destroying morality in the society.

Jaro Archbishop Angel Lagdameo called on television personalities not to be misled that condoms will solve the problem on HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).

Lagdameo said celebrities must not also forget their obligation to protect the moral of the people, especially the youth.

“We are discouraging celebrities not to appear in such advertisements because people look at to them as models,” said Lagdameo.

As public figures, the former president of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines said, celebrities have high responsibilities to take care of the people’s moral values.
