It only happens once per playthru, too. Luckily the gun is the strongest one in the game (aside from Alien Blaster...which is basically the same thing anyways).
Pretty much. I've had around 160 hours playing my first data and around 40-50 hours in my other save files, and yet I haven't experienced that crashing UFO encounter. I just had to use the console to get it.
