The javelin sounds like a good idea, although it might be more like throwable lances instead of the disposable knives, which probably means you'd have to physically retrieve it after every throw.
Now that I think about it, that's going to be one headache of a weapon to use because of its difficulty - but we all love impossible obstacles in this game, don't we?
Regarding the javelin.
Based on what I've read so far, a combat javelin (not the one used in sports) is usually a one-shot deal.
Take the Roman Pilum for example: It spearhead was designed to deform on hitting hard targets like a shield or a breastplate to ensure that it would be extremely difficult to pull out. This also had the effect of forcing the shield bearer to drop his shield due to the javelins added weight.
The Pilum's shaft is also designed to shatter. The idea was once it was thrown, there was no way for the enemy to use it again you. It also ensured that its didn't get knocked out of the target.
