Regarding the current bot problem. First it was a problem with them actually registering. IP bans should hold that off for now. Presently, I've also turned off guest and validating member posting in the Help Desk forum, since the last bot attack was only done by guest bots.
Fact of life on the internet though, and especially since we're using older board software. Get used to it. Don't be surprised if they manage to work around the current ban settings. I've already got a mile long list of email and IP addresses in the blacklist but one or two still manage to get through. I'll try to delete as much spam as I can in places where there aren't any mods, but for those forums that do have them, mods, I believe you have powers of topic deletion. Use them. I remember JE made a crack at that in one of the bot threads.
I'll think about having a super mod for the board. Maybe one of the older members who spend more time on the boards these days than me can step up to the task? PM me.
