Haha, any AC that gets hit by GL rounds is in a problem. Except maybe if you're a tank.
Anyways, I'll recommend that you switch the Cronus to the 99UL core. There is a significant bias in this design towards making it light, so much so that, as you said, the defensive aspect of it is compromised. The core change should buff that up. Or if you don't feel the core, change the arms to a set with better defense. Macaque will work as the RJ legs are pretty low drain enough.
That said, stability is another problem, but I feel the original Cicada + RA setup, so I'm not going to change that if it were my AC. Gotta have some style still, you know? Hehe.
I'd go for Vulture2 since it has the better acceleration of the two, but you should go for Gull if you're aiming for serious hang time. On that note, have you tried putting on an OB core for this, for the all-important RJ slide jump? The /UL or UL2 are some good choices.
I like the combo, it hits hard, can damage race with the best of them (if need be) and heats up targets quick. HOWEVER, I don't think it's for this AC. The overall range is short, and that may the real root of this AC's problems. I suggest you try switching out either the Ghost2 or the HP for a rifle of some sort, or maybe even Pixie3.
