Very simple. Ever since i was a kid, robots have been a favorite of mine. I'd watch all the shows i could that featured giant robots and mecha. Any toy i owned had to have something ro do with mechs. When i recieved my very first video game system, i discovered Macross and was immediately hooked.
When i was a bit older (10 years old yata) an uncle showed me a VHS tape he had borrowed from a friend. The video was Zeta Gundam (subtitled lang, di pa uso Gundam noon 94 eh). Good lord! The mech designs were awesome (to me, at that time, i've grown wordlier but the Titans mk. II is still one of the best) and the battles were incredible. The only thing i didn't like about was that the storyline was too complex (for a 10-year old) and grim (halos namatay yung buong cast). Horrific and brutal, yes, but it wasn't enough to douse my love for mecha.
Then in 1997, i got my first Playstation. Pretty few good mech games during that time but Mechwarrior 3050 and Krazy Ivan were enough for me. Then around late 97 someone told me about a game being developed that allowed me to build my very own mech. That i could decide what weapons i could equip on it and i could paint it any way i wanted. I just shrugged it off, thinking that such a game was too good to be true.
I played any game i could find. Then sometime in mid-98, a friend lent me a game called Armored Core. I was initially skeptical about it but after the first few minutes, i realized that this was the game i waited my entire life for. I happily played played through the first few missions. Imagine my dissapointment when the game froze (gasgas yung ilalim nung disc, bwiset). I could only play multiplayer with a poorly designed AC because 1P mode wouldn't load up properly anymore.
Then Project Phantasma was released. I've been in heaven ever since.
