Man, that Crossbone just looks sweet! I really hafta make some time off to do one of my unfinished kits. Sadly, time is a commodity i don't have enough of nowadays. Sad

@DT
Hopefully, we both improve sometime soon. I really need to invest in more modelling materials.

No prob, comrade. Anything for a fellow plastic modeller. Smile

Question: As far as paintbrushes go, what size is the smallest one useful for painting kits? I've started painting a squad of WH40K Space Marine minis but the brush itself is even bigger than some of the parts for the models.

No pics yet but to give you some idea of the size of these things, the foot of the Cascade Range model kit is around a couple of centimeters bigger than one marine. That's how miniscule they are.

I swear, my sight got a bit blurier after an half an hour of marking up MG Wing Zero's head part.. To think that I play way much more videogames than assembling kits, my eyes got strained waaay much wose in a small amt of time.

@Fox: I think I showed you last time the thinest brush(the thinest I own anyway). I think that brush will do the chore just fine. I recomend to pair the brush with a gundam marker eraser. I'm using it ryt nao, and it does the job(it contains a thinner lyk substance that disolves paint and ink), the best thing abt it is that it disolves markers but not sprayed on paint(kit painters rejoice!!).

@NiX
Yep, just as expensive as ordinary model kits. The box set of five Marines alone cost me almost php800 (and it's actually the cheapest they've got), and that's for just one combat squad alone. The Tactical, Assault and Devastator squads would run for the cost of a standard AC kit (php1500+) or higher, depending on the material. Don't worry, i'm not really looking into playing the tabletop game anyway, i'm just trying my hand at diversifying my model collection.

@isburai
No harm done. Just trying to get any info i can.

@DT
Where'd you get that brush again? I do wanna try using a Gundam Marker and some sprays for this one but apparently, i got everything wrong. Space Marines (or any kit from Games Workshop for the matter) are best colored using paints from Citadel. Apparently, for soft plastic or resin kits, acrylics are better used than enamels. I found that out the hard way as the first two Marines i tried painting are currently soaking in a 60/40 water-turpentine mix so that i can strip the paint from them.

@Goat
You want 'em, you got 'em. No pics for the two currently being stripped because they look just plain awful right now. These'll hafta do even though they're still unpainted.

The box.

Bought from the Neutral Grounds shop in Robinson's Galleria. The place needs to have a map since it took me more than thirty fething minutes to locate it.

The frames
[Image: astartes01.jpg]
Just like any other model kit. Just get out your hobby knife and start cutting off the pieces.

The parts
[Image: astartes02.jpg]
Each individual Marine has several parts. Arms, legs, the torso, a backpack, shoulder pauldrons, the head and the boltgun. There are several customization parts but i've decided to add them later when everything ready for the second attempt at painting. Another thing is these aren't snap-together parts, you hafta glue everything together.

The squad
[Image: astartes03.jpg]
The box has parts for five distinct Marines. No two look alike as you can choose between slight variations in helmet style, arm pose, chest aquilas and backpack designs.

Size comparisons
[Image: astartes04.jpg]
Standard-sized paperback novel compared to 1/100 Shining and 1/144 Shining. Seems pretty normal sized right? Look at the next two pics then.

[Image: astartes06.jpg]

As seen here, the Marines are really small compared to any project i've ever attempted before. They're barely the same size as the 1/100 Shining's foot and even Saber dwarfs them entirely. My eyesight's gonna decline even more when i'm through with these. Bye

I've decided on holding off from painting these things for the next few days. Looks like i'll hafta pay another visit to the NG shop to get paints and a four-man Devastator squad plus a sergeant to round out the unit. Will post more pics on how this project is coming along when i continue it.
