Those tank mechs are called <a href='http://mahq.net/mecha/gundam/index.htm' target='_blank'>Guntanks</a>. They are made for backup fire. Does well in long range though. Shiro is defending the Guntank pilots because it's important to have them. XD

If you're wondering why they are inferior, it's because it's a different variant of the original Guntank. This one is the Mass Production Type.
