Pan's Labyrinth

This movie just came out recently. Directed by Guillermo del Toro, the guy who did Hellboy, I went into it not knowing what to expect. I came out of the theater enchanted. Highly recommended.

It's a tale about magic, fairies, a little girl, a faun, a cruel captain, and some rather peculiar tasks. The story, bittersweet. The melodies, hauntingly beautiful. And the dialogue (brought to you by subtitles, the entire movie is in Spanish, which adds to its character I think), very well done.

What you don't expect from an introduction like that is the amount of gore there is in the film. It's not a lot, mind you, it's just surprising. No wonder this movie got the rating that it did.

Still though, it's a nice way to spend money. Reminds you that movies ain't all about Hollywood, although 300 was still mad fun.

Well, they did call it a fairy-tale for grownups. Not surprising since it's set during the second world war.

Wasn't it?
