AC tech was derived from MT's right? but AC's were built to be able to swap out parts? MT's are specilised and cant adapt and AC's have more advanced tech (less research into MT's for some reason?)
so if an AC can potentially have compatability issues due to its nature and an MT can potentially be built using more advanced AC derived tech (just not able to swap out the parts?) couldnt the MT be as strong if not stronger than an AC at the task it was designed for? (although an AC could be adabted to take on this advance MT where as the MT would be stuck as is) (was the nineball thing at the end of nexus an MT like that?)
just a thought that was in my head meh

I would guess so.
It seems that at first, these MTs derived from a higher rung of technology have much greater battle performance than ACs themselves. But like you said, the main problem lies in their stagnant nature. Being unable to adapt, MTs would be limited by the current reigning technology at the time, while ACs had the freedom to grow in versatility and flexibility.
Let's take that Nineball MT from the end of Nexus as an example.
Yeah, it can fly forever, and fire a whole barrage of energy weapons without fail. Big deal. You managed to get through it by attacking its weakness, to which it had no solution.
Or how about that giant MT from AC3? While it had clearly superior strength, it fared not too well against the mobility of a smaller and lighter AC.

MT's may seem weak because it is only AI controlled. Imagine what you can do if you can pilot that Nineball MT.
