60gb and 20gb refers to how much the hard drive of the PS3 can store.

The 60gb is good for up to 60 gigabytes worth of memory.

oh,so we don't need a memory card anymore?

The 20GB and 60GB are the PS3's onboard memory cap. But in reality, the system OS partitions a good chunk of it for settings, so expect only about 50Gb free space for the 60GB, for example.

And yes, we won't be needing the memory cards - you can configure the PS3 to partitions part of that memory for just PS1 and PS2 data. The bad news is you're gonna need to buy an adaptor for the unit to load the cards up.

The massive memory's also for saving up the media items you're gonna be picking up for the system, like downloadable movies and games - there's a remote-play setup allowing you to save up PS1 titles on the console, which you can dl to your PSP.

As for differences: the 20GB doesn't come with Wi-Fi.

And on a last note: You CAN swap out the PS3's HDD with a bigger one. The whole process takes just a few mins, and all you need is a few screwdrivers, a clean table, and a replacement HDD - one office we read up on swapped out their dinky 20 GB with a massive 120 GB HDD from a Toshiba notebook (laptop).

Oh noes! So if ever I do get the 20GB version, I'll need CAT5 cables to hook my PS3 up? Or are their connection ports of a totally different kind?

Yes, and no.

The PS3's supposed to be reverse-compatible with most of the PS2 titles out there, but we've ben hearing reports of loeding and game sound errors on their consoles - probably a software bug.

Given the PS3's mostly an online machine, we've heard this will soon be corrected with a firmware update

Apparently, there was a video circulating on the internet some time ago which showed a group of people changing-out the PS3 memory card in their office. They replaced the 20 GB memory of the cheap PS3, and switched it with a store-bought 120 GB memory card.

1. Open PS3.
2. Take old 20 GB memory card out.
3. Put new ??? GB memory card in.
4. Close PS3.

I'll have a look and see if it's cheaper to perform this procedure instead of paying twice the price of a 20 GB PS3 for a 60 GB PS3. If it does indeed cost less and is possible to do with a basic computer kit or home tools, this just might be worth it. After all, why settle for 60 GB when you can have 120 GB or more? Sounds awesome to me.

I don't mean to hype everyone up, but I'm recalling what I've read somewhere before. Anyways, I'll look into it when I get home.
