LR: Core-part Preferences

Just to stimulate some discussion in this board, I'm starting this topic.

Just like the title says, what kind of Core-part do you like best? Your choices are Hanger, Overboost, Exceed Orbit, and OB/Hanger cores.

Take your pick and give your reasons for your respective choices.

In the world of LR, I generally prefer the Hanger cores because of their higher stats. And since ammo is such an issue in LR, the extra weapons really help. So yeah, for a competition, I'd definitely go with a Hanger core. *hint hint* haha

But for just playing around, OB is definitely fun for me, though I prefer the OB/Hanger ones.

EOs are nice but I've found that the solid ones are useful only for rushers, or ACs that are too slow and need defense against rushers. The Energy ones are kinda better in that they don't run out of ammo, but their stats aren't so good.

So what's your take on this?

Well, my choice is pretty obvious. OB for the win. I grew up playing MOA a lot, so I guess I'm still trying to stick to that same feel of speed. OB allows me to do that. Plus it's grown to have a lot of uses in the succeeding years: jousting, flanking, positioning, and just plain bamboozling the other guy. :tongue:

Problem is, hanger cores seem to be overtaking OB in useability. Hangers now sport the best defense, CAMS, and cooling of the cores, generally speaking (*cough* UA *cough*). Plus that ability to store around 50-100 (or infinite, if it's a blade) more rounds of ammunition can always turn the tide of battle to the player. However, I'd still stick with OB.

EO cores have their uses. I think it's nice that when you're a blader, you can still have more than one stream of fire even when closing in on another AC. It keeps pressure on your opponent. But they're kinda like orbits: free damage. You don't really need skill to deploy EO, at least IMO, since you're basically letting the game do the firing for you. Granted, EO cores are pretty balanced in the fact that they don't hit much of anything beyond 100+ range, but still, being a purist (in a way, heh :tongueSmile, I try to stay away from them as much as possible.

So yeah, OB. :smile:

about cores... :hmm: honestly, I like all the cores...

for my personal favorite... OverBoost cores. since that type has been introduce in the AC2 era, I loved the speed and style (charge-up.. then... blaze of speed!!!)

second preference would be... Exceed Orbit cores. Energy EO sports unlimited ammo, also a part of offensive strategy. Solid EO is also good, but must be used accordingly since it ammo count dries up.

for multi purpose... Standard Hanger cores. I was happy when it was first introduced in Nexus. since most of the time now I'm a dual gunner, I need a blade backup... and so hanger cores fits well. Also, standard hanger cores reminds me of the AC's in the PS1 era.

but for the versality... OB+Hanger+AMS core... yeah, I get much of the performance :smile: 3 in 1 package :ph34r:

too bad there are cores that don't have AMS... all Mirage cores :sad: (but all Crest cores have AMS... why?) (but AMS-less cores tend to improve my missle dodging skills).

OB cores. it's just me... but somehow, AC just doesn't seem as fun without the ability to OB.

I use Hanger and EO cores...
I can't Ob but OB-Hangers are still good
I just like the extra firepower...

I'm OB/hanger, specifically speaking, OB talaga.

I prefer high mobillity to get in and out of situations in a hurry. But it seems EOs and Hanger are slowly taking me over Wacko

I perfer Solid EO and Hangar cores, since i usually do DFA close with dual weaps. I perfer Soid because i dont have to worry about extra drain when im boosting around at 500.

EO and Regular are my first choices.The EO increases my firepower and since I use the one that has an MG it makes me that much deadlier provided if I can get close to the enemy,you dont know how many tank legs ive killed by out-turning them then fllipping out my EO while firing my pixie 3 and occasionaly blading.But the one I have has low defense so I guess that balances them.

OBizzle fo shizzle ma rizzles, hehe. Hitting while not getting hit is all about location, location, location. OB let's you zip around as you like.

EO cores may seem like a cheap way out, but you still have to work with them, and they're not perfect. For example, 89E is great for mid-range rifle poking.

DR + 89E on a frame that can jink effectively at mid-range ... can strip AP pretty well. And that's the catch right there - 89E is the second-heaviest core in the game, (even though its a mid), second only to SELENA and right above EOS. So the firepower is balanced by the weight. Plus there seems to be limits to how far left/right and up/down the core orbits will track, and 89E isn't very gifted in this respect. Maybe another hidden stat? Doesn't that also mean core EOs have a shot velocity stat too?

GAEA is right behind EOS in terms of weight, and why not? Your core comes with 2 laser rifles built in. You're gonna pay for it, in weight, en drain, and usage drain. You gotta choose your moments for popping out EOs because of the last one. And they're not magic - the shot velocity is ordinary, and not effective beyond 300 yards. And the drain ... sacrificing mobility for firepower puts you on the wrong side of an equation a good flanker with hot weapons can push to his advantage. If you're in forced cooling, forget about using the EOs ... and now you have a core with compromised stats for an EO system you can't use. All about the mid range jink.

E2 is one of the best, with an aggressive B/G/R setup and rushdown / flanking, it contributes to damage racing VERY well. E2 + dual MG is tough to beat up close. Plus ... isn't it effectively a dual machine gun by itself? Typically I see it able to strip about 1000 AP when deployed up close and aggressively. Yet, it has a very low EN drain when deployed. Seems to have a wide angle of tracking, and high accuracy. Alternate use - a close in weapons system for otherwise pure sniper builds. Has great AMS for swatting down flies while you wait to line up that GL shot on a quad ...

URANUS is an EN machine gun with the right optionals on, but the EN drain ... wow. If you're going to sacrifice so many core stats for the damn thing, you may as well specialize. You're going to need a generator with a big cap so you can unload a bunch of rounds at once ... after burning a whole of juice to get close enough to do it. Unfortunately, the accuracy is just waaay low, so you gotta keep at it. Basically costs more energy than its worth, especially since it likes to fire at the edge of its range when it won't hit sh*t, so you gotta plan its deployment carefully. On any setup where you could use URANUS ... why not use E2 instead?

SELENA is just too damn heavy. Put it on a EN weapon specialized tank. Shot velocity seems low, and doesn't track very well off to the sides. Which again, is also bad news. Considering its weight, you won't be able to turn your own ass (by the turning stat) fast enough to keep up. OK for some missions, I guess? ATK pwr and heat look impressive on paper, but ... only if they hit!

ob and standard cores, preferably 99UL and UL2.

Let's see aleczander, I would choose Uranus or Gaea over their solid ammo counterparts simply because they have regening ammo supplies.

@ Dark Fury - I guess it depends on whether the intended use is mission or PvP. Regenerating ammo might be important for endurance, but it implies that you will let the bout last long enough to do that. GAEA especially is slow to regen. If you're doing lots of cover play, maybe. OTOH GAEA does decent damage when it does have ammo.

Personally, I prefer E2 for rushdown and a decisive blitz. Its got better attack heat output than URANUS (even though the latter is energy based ...??) and better accuracy, and AMS, and doesn't add major usage drain (like URANUS with the EN optionals). For example, dual SYLPH + E2 strips AP with the quickness, stacks up a lot of attack heat, and leaves you with AMS for defense even when the EO is empty.

With URANUS, I find myself burning most of my energy to get close enough for decent accuracy, while to equal the offensive performance of E2 you need to leave it running with a full EN bar for ammo. And this is the trade off for ... no AMS and higher EN drain? I want to like this core, but to me it seems like a second tier part ... because there are better choices for the stats that matter.

If you find yourself burning away your en using it then maybe you're using it wrong.

This is not to say that you don't know what you're doing, far from it, but me personally, in PvP I only use the EO on those cores when i have the en to spare and when i'm close enough for it to hit. I don't use it all the time.
