Well, Juno's ASKARI pretty much birthed the idea in my mind. For RR's first design contest, it'll be all about using a crappy part as the centerpiece of the design. I'm getiing kinda' tired of going FTW.
Maybe it would be better if it was called a design challenge, 'cause that's what it is. The question is though, what part?
The Icurus has already been utilized, so name other trashy parts you might wanna play around with. It can be anything: from the frame to the weapons.
Personally, I'd go with the Python. Second choice: the Dragon.

Ettins... I can't say I hate them... But still...
Sige... Ettins.
The Best design which makes use of left, right or dual wielded ettins...
AC shouldn't be overweight or under weighted...
Or use the highest weight capacity leg unit in every category...
In additon:
The AC must have at least one back weapon, Without using the following:
Nymphe...
First Rocket Launcher...
First Radar...
Must have Extensions, Inside Weapons, or both...
What do you think?

Sounds good. OK, so I'll sum things up.
The Challenge:
Must use the Ettin hand weapon. Can be used on the left, right, or wielded simultaneously.
Specifics:
No overweight ACs.
No underweight ACs.
The only allowable legs are: the Cougar, LH99XS, LH81AP, LR04-Gazelle, CR-LRJ90A2, Gavial2, CR-LT78A, and LN02-Sealion.
Must have a back weapon, but no Nymphes, 69Ms, 69ROs, or 69RAs.
Must have extensions or inside weapons.
Also, I'd like to make it clear that although we are designing an AC with a (relatively) crappy part as the centerpiece, these ACs must be battle-worthy. That is, while they are wielding less-than-top-tier parts, the total summation of these parts must produce an AC that is still viable for play. Kaya challenge talaga.

Actually, the Hollow isn't too bad. Mabigat lang talaga siya. With the right support, it shouldn't be too hard to make a competetive AC using the Hollow.

Madalas kasi pang extended battles lang iyon eh... (para sa akin :ph43r: ).
How about DRAGON? I always wanted to see how that thing works effectively. (the only thing that it exceeds among E. Weapons is the usage drain, maybe that could be the key...)
Throw in the SILKY as well (though I'm planning to experiment with it) and those chainguns

Not true... Right after seeing the post on the Hollow, I tried to make one...
And it really is just a heavy, yet, good laser rifle...
Specially if you want to rain beams on your enemies...

Let's go for the Dragon after the Ettin challenge, what do you say guys? I wanna see that thing on an AC. LOL! (I'll post a design, if ever, the Double Dragon <pun intended> LOL!)

Tried the Dragon... Dual even...
The worst weapon combo I've seen in my entire life in AC...
Used against my bro's Lightweight... And guess what...
77ap per shot! Puchit! Nakakairita!
Back then I was using my Seraph's prototype in NB, it used to have orbit cannons then...
My bro died with my Harpy2's... Not by my Dragons...
It was my most irritating fight...

How bout a design challenge using the basic starter AC?
We could either load it up with weapons only and not change the internals or change the internals but keep the default weapon set-up.
But then again, it could turn out to be a contest of attrition.
