Imori's AC vids
Still alive and kicking

Return of the king!

After Battle Arena 2004 I lost track of what he was up to. All I know was he started playing Senko no Ronde and played a bit of NB from details I got from his homepage, but after that I just lost track of what he did. After reading the Return of the King article Maitreya posted in the SC thread I wanted to know whatever happened to one of the greatest AC players in existence.

After a bit of searching, I found that he was kicking more ass then ever before, ranking 1st place again in X Arena, which from what I understand is a seasonal AC4 tournament for the Xbox360 that ended earlier this year (prior to when FA was released).

His Youtube account with his fights from X Arena for AC4: http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=...F574D61EE4

X Arena website with the rankings: http://blog.livedoor.jp/sera_chan/

Designs Imori used: http://blog.livedoor.jp/sera_chan/archiv...07203.html

Imori's personal website: http://page.freett.com/imori/index.html

To those who have just heard of him, Imori is quite possibly the greatest AC player in existence back in the PS2 generation of AC games. Just to show some of you guys to what he can do, I introduce you to one of his older fights:

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/ijnYjFIP32w&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/ijnYjFIP32w&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

I suggest taking a look at his Youtube account and look at his AC4 fight vids. His style is pretty much still the same as when he played SL except using QB instead of OB. Hope we all learn a thing or two about piloting in next gen AC games through this.

I see Imori likes fighting in the corner in AC4. Good tactic with all the boosting around.

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/EdnfQGGvz9M&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/EdnfQGGvz9M&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

At 1:48-1:53, was the swaying with the beat intentional? Or is that something natural in AC4? I Lol'd at that part.

I think he's trying to draw in his opponent rather engaging him head on, especially because he's using a heavy. A heavy will lose out against highly mobile opponents in an open field (Like in ALL AC4 maps), unless they're always kept in check, which is more evident in this vid:

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/rnpMJRUu7A8&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/rnpMJRUu7A8&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Then again, all his vids feature backing at the distance, waiting for the right time to strike unless he can get a good bum rush beat on an opponent much like this vid:

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/SsUUZgMV-Us&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/SsUUZgMV-Us&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

They are all pretty much Imori tourney vids, he even has the mid with shoulder rockets much like some of his SL ACs back then. His aiming skills are still sharp and he can really hold a lock just as good as before. This vid reminds me somewhat of how he used to play AC back in the SL days:

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/5aK2V4abEzY&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/5aK2V4abEzY&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

The swaying bit? AA's theme song isn't included in AC4's OST, so I think he was just doing that as some sort of taunt (In his other vids, he likes to QB in a circle pattern from a distance repeatedly, reminiscent of his SL dodging pattern) in order to force an opponent to do something prematurely. I guess, much to his surprise, it reminded him of AA's theme song Smile)

I plan on studying his Heavy fights and see if they're applicable to FA's physics when I start playing again. Then again, I'm sure he was playing in a lag-free environment where skills can be evenly put to the test.
