I found this through Destructoid. Some dude went and did x-rays of many game consoles and their controllers. I'm now enlightened on why the XBox 360 and the PS3 are so damn heavy.

Also, Japanese NES cartridges (the ones we know) had it correct. US ones apparently wasted a lot of space.
