- Etienne_Noir - 04-05-2007 VERY good reason I reappeared! I need AC-like PC games. Preferably ones that run on Ye Olde Abominatione (my computer). 128MB RAM, Pentium III processor, TNT2 (laugh at me more, why don't you!) video card. I'd also like them relatively free. Yes, free isn't relative. Shut up, stop making fun of me. Anyhow, AC-likeness is defined as being about mecha (duh), being marginally fun, and having endless numbers of parts to screw around with. The last part might be the hardest. Don't mess it up, it's also the most important. Anyhow, if people can get at least two games that match my horrifying requirements in 3 days (!!), I'll be happy during my 2-3 month moving-imposed web exile. Thanks! --Etienne noir - Lord_Leperman - 04-05-2007 <a href='http://free-game-downloads.mosw.com/abandonware/pc/non_english_games/japanese/gigantic_gear.html' target='_blank'>http://free-game-downloads.mosw.com/abando...antic_gear.html</a> Don't worry about it buddy. I understand how you feel. Anyway, this is the closest AC game I've come across that can work on lower-end PC's. <a href='http://www.dwahan.net/uki/shooting/CP026.ZIP' target='_blank'>Cloudphobia</a> Fast-paced mecha based SHMUP. - Etienne_Noir - 04-05-2007 The former is screaming for me to pay. Cash. And it hurts. I need to be a member or something to get free games. So, I guess that kills that one. -Insert rant here.- The latter is downloading as we don't-really-speak. Hope it's good. --Etienne Noir - Lord_Leperman - 04-05-2007 <a href='http://giganticgear.hp.infoseek.co.jp/gg.lzh' target='_blank'>http://giganticgear.hp.infoseek.co.jp/gg.lzh</a> <----- creator's direct link for Gigantic Gear. <a href='http://giganticgear.hp.infoseek.co.jp/' target='_blank'>http://giganticgear.hp.infoseek.co.jp/</a> <------ some info on the game. You need winrar to extract the files from the ".lzh" file however. Another free game that will kill time is: Dokutsu Monogatari <a href='http://agtp.romhack.net/project.php?id=cavestory' target='_blank'>http://agtp.romhack.net/project.php?id=cavestory</a> Think Castlevania platformer with a good story. (The game and the english patch is on the webpage link) - Etienne_Noir - 04-05-2007 Some info on the game, eh? Guess that it's not very informative, as I only know English, German, and Swedish. Curse you, Japan! In other news, that should do for now. But if anyone has any other games that fit the strict criteria outlined in this topic, feel free to post them. I have alot of time to waste and not nearly enough games. --Etienne Noir - Grim - 04-05-2007 <!--QuoteBegin-Etienne_Noir+April 05, 2007 08:18 pm--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td>QUOTE (Etienne_Noir @ April 05, 2007 08:18 pm)</td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin--> I'd also like them relatively free. Yes, free isn't relative. Shut up, stop making fun of me. [/quote:3c676207fd] Hey man, I think just about anyone would grab anything that's marginally good or fun if it was free. Anyway, here, check this out: <a href='http://www.ravenrepublic.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=188' target='_blank'>http://www.ravenrepublic.net/forums/in...p?showtopic=188</a> <-- The game might be a bit taxing for your video card, but try it out on lower settings anyway (although, for this, you'll need an internet connection - doh!). I got something that's quite similar to the Cave Story game: <a href='http://www.superfundungeonrun.com/insignificantstudios/preview.php' target='_blank'>http://www.superfundungeonrun.com/insignif...ios/preview.php</a> <-- Serious fun IMO. Homebrew games are made of win. Without all that commercial crap, it's all about the games. For an even more general suggestion, get emulators if you don't already have them. There are games out there that you never got to play because you didn't have the system or the game itself. Doesn't mean you can't have fun with them, now with Google present for all your ROM needs (I myself am currently playing Earthbound on ZSNES). - Etienne_Noir - 04-05-2007 You didn't get the joke of "relatively free". Relatively speaking, free is free. There is nothing that can be considered free in comparison to another thing except for something which is truly free. Like.. Something that costs a dime compared to something that costs 599 US DOLLARS still isn't free, even in relative terms. The "stop making fun of me" part was in reference to my apparent lack of knowledge in the realm of logical relativity and the concept of "free". Yes, I'm amazingly good with semantics. Don't toy with me. As for emulators.. Been there, done that. Currently trying to get somewhere in Axelay and the US version of Assault Suits Valken (Cybernoids, I think?). Axelay is just a question of how much I suck at playing the game. Cybernoids, I can't figure out how to get anywhere. I fall in the first level into a pit which seems impossible to jump out of. I noticed you can shoot up walls and such, but it hasn't made a pathway yet. And it's impossible to avoid the falling, from what I can see. And dashing seems pointless. Yep, I suck. It's a proven fact. UPDATE: Cloudphobia is utterly unplayable, because I lack a joystick. Happiness overwhelms me! Gigantic Gear is hard to aim in, or maybe I just suck. I was laughing too hard throughout most of it. I mean, come on: destroying tanks and mecha with a giant semi-robot anime girl is absolutely hilarious. Especially when this anime girl is taller than the tanks. Haven't tried Cave Story yet. Give me time. I'm going to try Grimlok's suggestions now. Hopefully, best for last. I'm not too hopeful, though, I find that most mecha games playable on a machine like this suck big time. UPDATE2: Happiness overwhelms me. ATC-Raycrash cannot be downloaded (404) and you cannot register (See above). This ticks me off. Bad. I mean BAD. It seems like AC-style gameplay is out of my reach. Here, I throw my hands in the air and yell "I GIVE UP!" in the most exasperated voice imaginable. --Etienne Noir - Grim - 04-07-2007 Well, what can you do, eh? XD That sucks, seems like they made ATC-Raycrash a closed beta now. Although I deleted my client program sometime ago, so I won't know if my account still exists. - clonezero - 04-07-2007 raycrash is now called ATX something something I think ... and its now pay to play ... irritating isn't it |
