- Doom Trigger - 11-01-2006 This came to me as an idea, after I finished watching Chrono Crusade. So here's how it goes: Seperate each review per post. Enclose on top of your post the anime title(for easy reference of course). As much as possible, please refrain from using spoilers to accentuate your review. This rules will do for now. So, here it goes.. - Doom Trigger - 11-01-2006 Honey and Clover Actually, I just finished watching the whole thing. And I'm still feeling all warm and fuzzy from the inside. Honey and Clover falls under the Love/Drama/Comedy category, I definitely recomend watching this to the "senti" type people(thers rarley any action nor violence). Thru the span of the series makikita mo talagang normal na mga tao ang mga main characters(they all have thier fair share of problems[they don't poses mutant powers]). So whats so special about this you ask: the story telling and character development. I specifically liked the narator of the story is one of the main characters(paiba iba ng perpectives for different takes on situations), as they tackle thier own internal conflicts, you'll see every character "grow". Each character has something interesting to offer, that I became sucked in by the story(usually I watch abt 2eps a day, but in this case 10eps). And then, theres soundtrack.. I love what they did to certain scenes when they compliment it with (most of the time) acustic mellow music. Voices fit the characters very well and I narly watched a scene that went awkward because of bad voice acting. The animation and art is quite normal in todays standards(hindi naman sila masyado tipid sa mga frames). Some people may find the series to be boring, mainly beacuse normal lang yung settings(and not to mention parang tele novela yung story), and minsan corny yung mga patawa nya. I think hindi sya masyado masisikmura ng mga action or echi maniacs(though I still recomend them to watch at least 2eps of the series before they turn it down). Kelangan nga medyo malalim ka rin magisip(well, I think..) to apreciate this. Over all, I liked the series and all it's quirkiness, and I recomend all the senti people to watch it.. - Doom Trigger - 11-01-2006 I'll add some more later on(as I finish watching them). I also would like your takes on things(on my reviews or your own recomended series) - Doom Trigger - 11-25-2006 Fate Stay Night (FST from now on) Just finished watching this 6 hours ago, can't actually recomend this to all anime collecttors out there, cuz I did'nt quite like it myself, but enough of that. I'll just go ahead and state what I saw and hold you guys to it(weather you watch it or not) . FST is a magical/action/romance genre that was before an RPG devised by Type Moon(Tsukihime). I've been hearing very good things about this game for a long time(coming from melty blood fans of course). What I mostly read that was so good about it was it's story(Type Moon is well known for this). Ideed, FST has a good story(but I'm not gona spill any of it), with great sets of characters(the servants mainly). I think the main stars of this series are the servants and not the masters, as I feel more interested in them than the main characters themselves(the masters). The Art may seem simple but are well animated, in fact I liked some of the fight sequences, they did'nt skimp on frame counts here. Saying all that I was wondering why I did'nt like it for some time now(about 6 hours). Well, the setting is so cliched, I mean "1 boy and far too many girls around him that eventually lives together with him, father died and alone in house with babes"(well it did came from an H game..). Music is so forgettable, the voices are OK but nothing special. In conclusion many of the good things I said offset the bad things, and I know the bad things are passable by marathoners(those who watch whole series in one sitting). Finally, what made me say that I did't liked it was the fact that I felt uncompeled to watch the whole thing(perhaps it's my fault for having little time to watch) mainly because the main characters did'nt quite catch my interest(though there were some characters warant notice), as added fact, the main heroine is butched up(it did turned me off, thats why I mentioned it). I can recomend this to people that have'nt grown out of babe cliches or people who're ["who're" = "who are" I know some ppl may get the wrong idea] looking for a archtyped but nicely done story driven watch(I'm so getting hate letters for sayin all this  ).. DT out - Fox - 11-26-2006 I'll post a review for Karas when i finish watching it. Stay tuned. - Doom Trigger - 11-26-2006 Wow, meron pa pala pumapansin sa thread na to .. TY Fox for your future contribution to this rather monotonous place. Looking foward to your review.. - Zigg - 01-04-2007 Initial D Stage 1-4 I recommend this if you like cars or want to be a racer... - HayWire - 01-04-2007 Azumangga Daioh: Category:Comedy For: People who wants a really good laugh People that wants sugar-rush People who like complete randomness Why watch: More of why not watch? It's funny, and you'll be glad you're not them...why? you'll see..hehe - clonezero - 02-19-2007 Argento Soma ... its an old series but is very cute AND cool IMO Puni Puni Poemi - like Azumanga Daioh compressed into a OVA - Grim - 05-22-2007 Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust OK, so I just finished the movie a few days ago. Suffice it to say, if you love the vampire lore, you will be all over this movie. It has references to some historical stuff beside all the fantasy, without letting history dictate the story too much. The plot is decent, with some twists around the corner. It manages to be quite complex enough to allow some characterization to take place, without being too complex (like Metal Gear Solid-complex) to lose the viewers. Characters themselves are cool. They're very differentiated, they look cool, and they have some pretty nice moves. The animation is top notch. The art itself is very good too, the style lending itself quite nicely to the whole gothic theme going on. Although the guy doing the character designs is different this time around, all of it was pretty much based on Yoshitaka Amano's conceptuals (whose art book I'm currently downloading, coincidentally - big fan admittedly). Music is awesome too. You got your prerequisite gothic cathedral sounding music, but some good variety in there as well. My conclusion: B+. Watch it. NAO. - HayWire - 05-22-2007 Ginga Densetsu Weed I just finished watching it... Pros: Highly addictive(I guess) it's for those who Love or detest dogs...coz the story is about dogs Has Action,Drama,Comedy in one Cons: bad language Gorey is pretty short they rarely close their mouths and don't blink RE: Anime Recomendations - Grim - 10-30-2007 Vampire Hunter D So as a way to round out my good experience with Bloodlust, I decided to watch the original Vampire Hunter D this morning. The story in this one is much more simple than the sequel, as all first attempts tend to go. But it's still a good one. Art style, as you'd expect from anything made in 1985, follows that of the old-school anime style, which employs sketchier and less sharp images than the ones we have now. Of course with the man Yoshitaka Amano handling things in this department you know it's quality work. Sound is pretty forgettable. I don't think I remember a tune from the movie. Overall: C+. RE: Anime Recomendations - Serene - 12-19-2007 Title: Ghost Hound Genre: Paranormal Comments: The story is quite dark, specially with the chosen theme. But is toned down by Betty Boop style character designs for the main characters.. OBE -out of body experience- plays a huge role in the story. The opening theme is quite jumpy -it makes you want to jump-... Rating: 7.5/10 -because of the main characters' designs-. RE: Anime Recomendations - Fox - 12-20-2007 Sentou Yousei Yukikaze (Battle Fairy Yukiaze or simply Yukikaze in the english dub). Paranoia in the skies! Although a very short OAV series, at only five episodes long, it manages to squeeze into them a sense of completion and character development that is much more reminiscent of a full one-season, 24-25 episode series. Another plus is that the guys behind this one is Studio Gonzo, the very same ones who brought us Blue Sub 6, Kaleido Star and Welcome to the NHK. Set sometime in the near future, Yukikaze tells the story of a war between humans and a mysterious alien race known as the Jam. Apparently, sometime in the mid-21st century, Earth came under surprise attack by these extraterrestials. The conflict mostly took place in the air, with aircraft from each side hunting each other in the skies. It took a massive coordinated effort by most of the world's military forces to push the Jam through an immense interdimensional rift located in Antarctica back to their alien homeworld of Fairy. Wary of any further incursions, the Earth Forces left a sizable garrison on Fairy to watch over the gate and keep an eye on the Jam's activities. Convinced of their victory, the world at large then proceeded to forget these events. Fast-forward thirty-odd years later to the main story. The Earth Forces stationed there have adapted to the relatively-Earth like conditions on Fairy and have established a foothold on the alien world. Unknown to the general public back on Earth, the war still boils on between the Jam and the humans, now known as the Fairy Air Force. In the time that the FAF have been on Fairy, they have developed technology and war machines even more advanced than those found on Earth, including a line of hyper-futuristic fighter planes such the Sylphs and the Pixies. An entire generation has grown up on Fairy, with many of these young men and women opting to join the defense forces. Among these warriors is 2Lt. Rei Fukai (later promoted to 1Lt.), a quiet, emotionally-reserved pilot with anti-social tendencies and a rather cold personality. Also among the principal characters is the gregarious Maj. James Bukhar, Rei's CO and Capt. Foss, a military psychiatrist assigned to observe Rei's emotional problems (not surprising that she seems to take a liking to the taciturn pilot). Not all events in the series take place on Fairy though, as focus is also given to Lyn Jackson, a journalist on Earth who developed an obsession with the Jam as she grew up during the first war and has now written a book about the efforts of the FAF and the existence of the Jam. Her publication of the events on Fairy has drawn fire from the public and other members of the press. Other supporting characters round out the cast as well, with the near-sentient Yukikaze fighter craft itself becoming an integral part of the story. The story can best be described as a cross between the X-Files and Top Gun. Between the eyeball-burning air battles, a sinister alien conspiracy is uncovered by the protagonists - how is it that the FAF's newest developments are countered so easily by the Jam and why are downed pilots, who have been missing for a few days but then turn up alive and well, behaving so strangely? The pacing and plot development of the series is done well, spread across five episodes. Between all the aerial mayhem and alien paranioa, focus is also given to the main character's and their individual raisons d'etre, with emphasis on the relationship between Rei and Jack. The music quite fits the atmosphere of the series, with a techno-electronica feel to it that's a bit reminiscent of the tunes in the Mega Man games. This one became an instant favorite once i finished it. Visually mesmerizing and intricately compelling story-wise, the only dissapointing thing about this one is the shortness. Other than that little irritant, i give this one both thumbs up! Rating - 4 and 1/2 Micro-Missiles RE: Anime Recomendations - clonezero - 02-06-2008 Armored-Trooper-Votoms-Pailsen-Files-OVA don't know much about it myself but because I know people here watch this here is a link http://www.crunchyroll.com/series-7970/Armored-Trooper-Votoms-Pailsen-Files-OVA.html lol bert pasalamat ka well that is kung di mo pa alam to >_< |
