WoW's Astounding Numbers

Quote:With about 12 million subscribers, chart-topping sales and enough pop culture cred to warrant both an Emmy-winning turn in South Park and shout-outs from William Shatner and Ozzy Osbourne, we knew World of Warcraft was big.

But during a game conference in Austin covered by Gamasutra, the game's developers dropped some stats that make it out to be, well, really, really big.

To operate a game as massive as Warcraft, Blizzard employs over 4,600 staffers and uses 20,000 computer systems, 75,000 CPU cores and a staggering 1.3 petabytes (that's over 1 billion MBs) of storage. And you thought your 32 GB iPhone was cool.

Added note from me:

If WoW were a country, it would be 73rd out of 223 countries. That would be more people than Greece, Hungary, Austria, Switzerland, and a lot more... LOL

Tsunami in Samoa
Earthquake in Indonesia

RE: Teh interesting news stub thread - NiX - 10-02-2009

Yeah it really sucks.

Those other places might even have it worse than us. Poor people.

RE: Teh interesting news stub thread - Grim - 10-02-2009

I heard there was a 4.3 magnitude earthquake in Mindanao yesterday. And was it true that hale was falling in QC?

RE: Teh interesting news stub thread - NiX - 10-02-2009

Haven't heard about the Earthquake. And the Hale one, I only heard that on the radio, so can't confirm it.

Not posting this to spread more hate. It's more for the lulz. I'm not really in a mood to be pissed off at anyone right now hahaha.

edit: not to say that i'm tolerating shit like that. but really, the motivator's just funny. LOL (linked to me by Andrew)
