Subprime Primer: Stick figures explain economic collapse. via BoingBoing

Consumer Reports' Secret Shoppers have lots of explaining to do. (Wired)

Do any of you read consumer reports? It's a useful site for quick summaries of different consumer products that you don't know anything about. For example, I might know a lot about cameras, but I have no idea when it comes to washing machines or (shockingly) coffee.

Losing weight and not maintaining costs a lot of money. (Freakonomics blog)

U.S. Spies Want to Find Terrorists in World of Warcraft

Quote:Be careful who you frag. Having eliminated all terrorism in the real world, the U.S. intelligence community is working to develop software that will detect violent extremists infiltrating World of Warcraft and other massive multiplayer games, according to a data-mining report from the Director of National Intelligence.

The Reynard project will begin by profiling online gaming behavior, then potentially move on to its ultimate goal of "automatically detecting suspicious behavior and actions in the virtual world."

Nope.

On the issue, what if the player is just extremely aggressive as a player? Or has a lot of angst he wants to release?

Oh yeah, do real terrorists play computer games?

Well, this is kinda related to that one but Saddam reportedly did attempt to create a supercomputer out of hundreds of PS2s a few years back. That project really didn't go anywhere though.

Wonder what he planned to do with that?

EDIT - Can't find the link anywhere...

This was funny. Lesson: don't rob clubs who's regular patrons go by names like "The Bear", and who have been going there for at least a year.

Bikers foil attempted robbery at club (Associated Press)

Machete wielding masked bandits picked the wrong club to rob yesterday - 50 biker club members were meeting there.

Police said the robbers raided the Regents Park Sporting Club about 8.50pm yesterday, ordering people at the bar to lie on the floor.

But the robbers failed to notice 50 members of the Southern Cross Cruiser Club, gathered in the nearby auditorium.

"The two guys burst in with machetes and started waving them around and intimidating people," said bikie club founder "The Bear".

"They walked in to try and do a robbery and thought there'd just be people playing bingo and poker machines.

"But there were also 50 blokes there having a social night and it's come unstuck for them."

The robbers immediately fled on seeing the bikies approaching, with one running through a plate glass window, leaping off a five-metre balcony and running through a bowling green, and the other escaping behind the bar.

But biker club president Jerry "Jester" van Cornwall and other members ran to the back of the club, waiting for the fleeing robber to emerge from the back entrance.

"As this guy opened up the roller door we crashed tackled him in the doorway," van Cornwall told ABC 702 radio.

The man wriggled free, but was pursued and crash-tackled again by Mr van Cornwall, who restrained (hog-tied) him until police arrived.

"It was very hard to see the expression on their faces because of the balaclavas, but I imagine it was something along lines of 'Oh shit, what have we done here?'."

Regents Park Sporting Club manager Eddie Kiosoff said the bikers had been regulars at the club for about a year, visiting a few nights a week.

Gig Robles, a senior HS student at La Salle Zobel fell to his death (from a 6th or 7th floor room) early Sunday morning after a night of partying. It's tragic, but at the same time its also pretty stupid way to go.

I guess La Salle Zobel students are banned from yet another hotel.

It wasn't at a sausage party per se. It was their grad ball and he checked into a hotel room with his guy friends. And then the accident happened. It's really unfortunate.

RE: Teh interesting news stub thread - Shintetsu - 03-11-2008

Gay unfortunate imho.

Why the hell will you get a hotel room on the grad ball WITHOUT girls? Or at least, if they WERE just planning on drinking, why there?

Pension/Rich kids and their parents' money. Facepalm.
