Genes are a big part of course. But when you condition your body to doing something at the exact same time that it's in a period of growth, it will grow according to what suits the activity you're doing. So if you play basketball, which requires lots of stretching of the muscles and bones, as well as leg power, at the same time that you're just getting to that growth period, chances are you will.
