Well I've seen a decline in the use of sniper rifles for play. It seems that everyone is going to the way of the quicker-firing guns these days (MGs, handguns), presumably for easier damage ability. Sniper rifles, on the other hand, require more tactical play, since they can't be spammed as easily (with the exception of dual Wyms, go figure). With that, positioning becomes a prime factor in the match, especially when combined with OB.

Now, snipers could easily engage in damage racing, but that'd be like overturning their purpose. They're there for picking and choosing shots after all. Considering all that, where do you think snipers would be most viable? On lightweights? Mids? RJs?

Personally, if it weren't for their heavy equip weight, I'd go for snipers on the lightweights, for easier manueverability. Add to that the fact that lights have (generally) paper thin defenses and you've got a fun range game coming. As it is though, snipers are kinda being relegated to the light-midweight sector, to even consider equipping other backup armaments besides the main guns.
I would prefer LWs and RJs, and Hovers.

Since sniper rifles are supposed to be used in long range fights, hmm.... I think LW ACs, Hovers and RJs are the best to go. LWs can dodge weapon fire and retreat then organize attacks accordingly. RJs can jump up high + it has a better stability than other legs. While RJs are on mid-air, they could use a dispenser to pick an enemy off and smack up your enemy's heat. Hovers are fast when 'dashing' on ground. You could make fast manuevers then beat the crap outta your opponent with snipers and missles.

Heavyweights and Midweights are fine with snipers, but Lightweights, Hovers, and RJs would be more logical, for me.
Snipers... i use them only in missions... it's more logical on a maneuverable fast AC... depends really on the build of the AC that you have... Wyrms... hmmm nice i used to have an AC that used both of them when i was still starting out with AC but i go for blades and the RL
I use EN Snipers... for close range. Para hindi masayang yung bala... And yes I agree... Medyo bumababa na nga yung mga gumagamit ng snipers because they are beginning to focus more on close to mid range combat...

Anyways, snipers are good weapons when combined with machineguns or any single fire or burst type weapon... to compensate for their slow reload rate...

In Addition... Snipers are also good for team battles... Isa pain, yung isa naman yung taga-snipe... hehe sneaky...
ginagamit ko dual solid sniper rifles pang support missions pati NIX+FENRIR pang vs AC missions lng ^^
Yup, ako rin dual solid rifles... RS on the right, and Golem on the left. Add F73H or F75D to the mix, and some vertical missiles, and you got yourself a winner. XD

How do I use these?

Dual snipers for the range. You can back it up with handguns though, ang favorite hanger ko so far is the Wraith. Light and has a quick damage ability, great backup.

Verts for the range play. Since you need to play for cover when using snipers most of the time (as you cannot spam shots back), you need a means of keeping "on the attack" (or at least keep harassing your opponent). Verts can do this, even while you're behind a building or a structure. Kaya mahal na mahal ko ang Born City eh.

And of course, there's the presence of OB. Kailangan laging on the move, to keep from being targeted. Kinda like Sniper Wolf in MGS, maganda yung tira, tapos galaw to another spot. This also serves the purpose of flanking your opponent if they stay stagnant in one place.

So yeah, that's basically how I play sniper.
The probable reason why snifles today are rarely used is because of the increased movement speed.

Try Centaurs on the back, they're built for the win. ^^
After three salvos, you have to drop them of course. Don't believe me? Try it for yourself, you'll see what I mean. RM + Cents are an almighty tactical combo.
RS and the FENRIR are the only sniper rifles that i could really ever fully exploit. i usually need to equip something with a WS lock (i like the HP handgun) on the left hand to expand the sightlock because i find it hard to maintain lock while abusing OB for range control. i know some people can, but i'm still getting there. :excited:

kaso nga lng light weight dual sniper tooter ako kaya sa middle missile lng ang dala ng AC ko
Hey, I'm still using snipers XD The only problem (for me) is the ammo.put a handgun in the other hand and look at your fcs Blink
Antlan uses sniper rifles -specially the fenrir- like parry blades...
So yeah, I think a handgun would be good left arm weapon...
RS2 + NIX FTW.

They usually run out of ammo at the same time when I use them.
I feel frustrated with the way From manages to completely turn the game mechanics on its head. I feel doubly frustrated with the way this has affected my favorite type of AC, the sniper. In one game it's alright, the next it's mediocre, then in the next it manages to rule over and win against anything when paired with tactics that are strong in that specific game (backpedaling the whole time in LR, staying up in the air in AC4). It seems like everywhere you go there's yet another complaint against yet another n00b who just picks at you and stays away for the entirety of the match. Now I have nothing against winning, but playing against a build which you just can't touch no matter how hard you try is not going to be fun. Now I understand why some American players disconnect immediately from such battles, although I'm not inclined to do that myself.

Incidentally, those kinds of builds I've been hearing are all on the ranked servers on AC4. No wonder, it's all about winning there. Cheese be damned.

It's not so much the stigma of using a sniper in battle, if there is one (and it won't be among us, I'm sure: we're just glad to play). Or, in other words, "Ay sniper! Wag nalang!" It just bothers me that From can't seem to get it right. In retrospect though, I guess you can say that for other weight classes and types of ACs, that they're never perfect.
