Grim Fandango was a groundbreaking game, taking the adventure game genre and moving it into a 3d world. The game was very witty and funny as well (as all Schafer games are). If somehow you ever find a copy of this floating into your possession, be sure to play it to completion.

I guess the real reason I've created this topic is because Tim Schafer released the puzzle document to the game on his site. A puzzle document essentially contains the entire game in it, characters, narrative, puzzle flow and solutions included.
I <3 it! Go download the demo ASAP so you will <3 it too lawl.

The game runs on the unreal engine 3, and generally requires the user to jump and move across obstacles (from point A to point B) in the fastest manner possible. There's very few guns, and it slows the character down when she's carrying them. I don't think ammo can be picked up either, so guns have to be discarded. It's about as much an FPS as Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion was, in a non-traditional sense.

In case you're getting it, don't worry too much about the controls. The interface is simple enough to understand and the launching places for "moves" are tightly set. The sound effects are great, from Faith's reaction on launching and landing at different surfaces/height. The types of materials used as obstacles are also quite realistic. I haven't noticed any clipping issues either.

...his recently purchased 3.2GHz Core i7 Extreme 965 CPU. Paired with an Asus P6T motherboard and running at the stock clock rate it scored a 5,606 in 3DMark06, in-line with what earlier testers found. O/C'ed up to 3.8GHz it delivered a tidy 6,608, a mark that surely gives it control of all benchmarks and, thus, the PC universe.

http://www.engadget.com/2008/11/02/intel...nchmarked/

But...

Many early articles suggest that i7's design is not ideal for gaming performance. In a test done on leaked hardware, a Core i7 940 compared to a QX9770 shows the Core i7 is slower than Yorkfield clock for clock in 2 games while being faster in the other two. Difference in all cases are small

"Core i7 is not the best processor for old games, or rather games at present, but in future, every big title would be constructed around multi process and Direct 10+. So if you want to play well a game of that kind, you better get equipped with a Intel Core i7, since that’s where i7 is meant to stretch its wings and fly high.

In a word, Core i7 is the processor of the future and for the future."

SRFL70

OPs: Screens, STAB, missile jammer, TRN+, FCS+ (needed for hard mode), CLPU

If I had one design, and just one design to pilot in any AC title for the PS1-2 generations, it would be this one (provided of course, the performance of this machine remains unaltered in any way). Damage soak for shell weapons reaches 69K with EN weapons at around a respectable 45K. Weapons are an all rounder, with the RF-160 + SRFL/70 fulfilling all range, direct fire offense or defense, and the VMs + relations for surprise attacks. A true ultra-heavy in all respects.

Radar is covered with the MISTEYE's long range, fast refreshing radar, which is pretty handy considering the part's weight and drain. Mobility is covered mostly by the GULL, though substandard (the UN8, FLEETs or maybe the MARE are the top and almost non-negotiable boosters in SL IMO), the GROA's OB plays a bigger part in movement for this AC’s distance control. The RF-160 + SRFL/70 combo, while considered overpowered (due to the SRFL/70 sharing the WS lock of the RF-160, only superseded by the MG800) provides all the offensive and defensive needs of this AC from short to mid range (WS lock, decent damage and accuracy at those ranges).

The armor on this AC is sub-standard for its weight class, as the SOD legs can accommodate heavier frame parts that would allow shell damage soak values to reach up to 90K. However with a bit of compromise, it enjoys a fairly decent shell soak value of around 69K. To put it into perspective, a standard midweight AC has a damage soak for shell defense at around 32K, making this AC at least twice as hard to kill as a regular midweight. These modifications are necessary in order to accommodate the rather heavy, but effective VM40-1 dual verts and R36 relations.

The dual verts in SL were really good at tracking opponents and offer heat and attack damage greater than that of a GL round if all missiles connect. Coupled with the R36 relations, the missile combo is a threat for any AC at mid to long range, even ultra heavies and tanks with massive amounts of shell defense will not be able to absorb the damage and heat dealt by the missile combo. Weighing just around 2000 weight points makes it one of the heaviest missile combos in the game, and thus limited choices for frame parts and weapons, but its effectiveness in the field makes them worth every compromise.

All these weapons are coordinated by the SRA02 FCS which gives a nice wide horizontal lock for the missiles and rifles, and with a lock on range of over 500 for both weapons means one can keep track of an opponents movement on both your radar and lock box. Missile defense is covered by the DD20 which provides enough decoys needed for a match. Cooling is done through the ICICLE, though drainy compared to other radiators, it provides adequate cooling and forced cooling for the AC, especially when paired with the CLPU option part.

Usage of this design requires a harmony between the missiles, rifles, and OB, allowing the player to use missile as both a setup and a damage dealer with rifles supplementing offense. Defensive play strictly focuses on dual rifles and decoys if the opponent has missiles. Getting into proper range is also important for this AC. Rifles will miss targets beyond mid range, and missiles will often overshoot opponents at close range. Thus OB is essential for this design in order to maintain the proper range of engagement. Thankfully the GROA’s OB is very forgiving despite the high OB heat. The sheer effectiveness of the AC’s armor, and weapons, and mobility combine into a design that hasn’t been surpassed by any AC design I’ve created before and after SL.

I’ve never been happier about a design ever since I discovered this one (with the exception of some of my LR designs I suppose). As much as I love its strengths, there are inherent weaknesses that can be exploited. One of which is its rather slow turning speed, which can be exploited by nimble ACs with high turn rates (066 legs come to mind for mids). A really good pilot (Imori level) in a competently designed mid or light AC with EN recharge extensions (MALUM or ELIX) can perpetually stay behind this AC provided that he is always one step ahead of Magnum Opus’ movement. On Magnum Opus’s part, its armor should be able to buy him enough time to do some damage of its own. Ditching the heavy missile system gives it room to play with speed due to its lighter load and significantly increased refresh at around +900, allowing it to go toe-to-toe with faster ACs.

With this, I end my last look back in time in order to challenge myself to build an even greater machine in an era of a new AC generation.

I'm happy that there are improvements and all, but I was a bit disappointed that it doesn't look different at all from Vista (I was expecting something like when we jumped from Windows 3.1 to Windows 95). I don't think that was entirely wise. MS is trying to move on from the bad taste Vista left in a lot of people's mouths, and marketing a new product which essentially looks the same might get confusing. I guess they poured too much money into the Aero look to flush it down the toilet.

But as always, time will tell. I plan to upgrade to 7 and just skip Vista entirely. Hopefully, this iteration of Windows will be better-supported and better-liked. Microsoft still has time to either screw this up or make it better.

Maybe some of you already experienced this, i keep getting 80710092 - error during download operation- now, this only happens in games that I dled from PSN. Games like ACFA didn't have problems updating. What sucks is that i can configure the modem myself but PLDT won't give me the username and pass and they just say that the connection is meant to be auto connect and therefore don't tinker with any settings =(. Sad which means i can't update any games i bought in PSN. Started happening after the last update in 2.50 FW.

So, i'm guessing the solution to this is connect my modem to a router. *correct me if i'm wrong* Is this the only solution? If so, what is the best router to connect my Zyxel p600? I googled it and most people said that Lynksys has a compatibility issue with Zyxel p600....i'm thinking, is Netgear ok with the Zyxel P600 or do any of you have a recommendation...ARGH the problem i think could easily be solved if they just provide me with the user and pass...it's frustrating cuz i know what i am supposed to do, but they won't let me....and even if i tell them that if i fucked it up i am prepared to wait even a month for them to configure it, but no....ok i'm ranting....

I just suddenly remembered this topic while making another post.

So what was this all about? Take the cheesiest, most borken parts in any AC title, and slap them together (without having to resort to OP-I or PLUS). What do you get?:

Symphony of Destruction Wrote:Alright, first off, this is a joke topic. It's here to cheer you up when Super-Tanks and Super-Heavies have got you down, and when you feel the MG/800 is a bad 'mofo. It's here to make you laugh.

It all started with this topic at ACO, and specifically these two images, which show action figures from AC2, AA, AC3, and SL, as well as the fact that parts are interchangable between all of them.

You'll note my statement in the earlier linked topic. Well, I was bored, so I decided to take it one step further. I'd like to thank Corsair for doing some values for me, and Kobel and droobies for part suggestions.
Now, without further ado, I present a beast that should haunt your nightmares (or at the very least, be drawn on paper):
We decided it'd be best to work with PS2 titles only, since that's how the figures work, and for our sanity to only use AC3/SL optional parts. That's, hitting the shield, a combined defensive value of 5463, packing one of the most broken weapons in AC history, at the same rough speed as a fully loaded SNSK design using the NI/GULL, and with 7501 refresh while boosting, or, roughly 1.5 times the refresh of a normal design.

No missile defense, but you can soak virtually anything and everything, and ECMP will ensure that unless they've got an effective single-locker the volleys will be coming fairly small, letting you take your sweet time to dodge or go through them.
Did I mention, it's a perfect fit?
Hope this gives you a few hearty laughs and eases your troubles.

Let me piece together just how scary this is since a large number of you may be unfamiliar with the parts.

Take the frame of the last machine, and add the PP FINGER, with 250 damage per shot, and 3,000 rounds, and the "V Missiles of Death" from the AC1 series, which shot off 6 missiles at a time (1120 Attack Power each, 60 missiles). The total killpower of this machine now equals 817,200, all of it shell, but enough to kill itself over around seven times.

It also now has the KD99 and the DD-30, CLPU, and the two stabilizer options from MoA, making it highly resistant to heat, missiles, and stun of any kind.

The funniest part are the boosters, which are a lighter, more wasteful, and more powerful FLEET. Their output is 23,400, which is beyond SL's capabilities to actually have, since booster performance is capped at 22,000, but since this would be some evil boss-type, he can ignore those rules. To try and give a reasonable idea I used the WAKE and OX/002, and then just added a "+" symbol. I'd postulate around 375kph for ground speed.

And just to tickle your brain, imagine how fast it moves when you drop the S800-GF after it's 10 shots are up (it weighs 1110 for the record).

Not a stylish perfect fit anymore, but what'cha gonna do?

There you have it folks, probably one of the sickest machines possible using parts from all the AC Games. Hope my fellow series veterans get some kicks out of the older parts.

B-P320 are a worse version of the EBT-GE, which are a worse version of the CBT-00-UN1.

RATOR is basically the ND-2 from AC3 and the ELENA from AC2 only more expensive. Gotta jack up that AC Rating!

ZSV was chosen simply for its energy supply, though it'll take a very long time to charge because of the slow refresh.

MER/SA is the same as the RIX-CR10 only with poorer cooling.

FM-30, the floating mines, are a joke as ever.

The CROW has been nerfed to where it's of little point to use.

554/EW is like the CRU-A10 only worse in every way.

X10 gets my vote for the worst back unit ever. It's very heavy (939kg), has only 10 shots, and they're contact bomblets.

So, basically, the thing is slow, heavy, poorly armored, and replies entirely on close-range weaponry. It's still usable, nothing was selected to intentionally hamper its performance by non-usage, it just can't do squat. It's about 5kg underweight as well.

That's my bid for the worst machine, based on some of your input and my own.

Hope it inspires as many laughs as the two Godzilla brothers.

--------------------

Yet another strange multi-game creation!

I don't really trust the AC builder for giving reliable soak values anymore, and don't really have the time to cross-check my results. Still, it has respectable armor, and astounding refresh (9021 while boosting). Speed is probably somewhere around 550kph on the ground while going full tilt.

Anybody who thinks the HADRO are broken or even unbalanced has to go back to the AC1 series and check out the AN-25 and the AN-K1. AN-K1 are more similar to the MACH, except for Energy Defense, which is like 200 points higher. Both have nearly 200 to 300 more AP than the HADRO.

Anyway, as to the AC itself, with AC1 series super-energy optionals, you're doing 4370 damage per shot with the RF/E. Ten shots and it's gone, leaving you with the AC1 MOONLIGHT and the BM60-1. If the RF/E didn't kill it, MOONLIGHT swipes will, and if it's a tank you can just bombard it from a distance. Failing that, you can just run like hell, since your boosters and OB are quite capable of putting a lot of distance between you and the other guy.

These were created back during the days of SL, which is pretty outdated by today's standards. Now I challenge you and everyone here in RR, to make an AC greater than this. With the advent of new more cheesier parts from NX-LR, we can make an even more ridiculous AC than the ones posted. I'm thinking of adding the NB BP in the mix as well as the HP and such, but we can go further by adding ECMs.
