The Marijuana Legalization Debate
#1
I'm currently doing research right now for a speech I have to make on the positive effects of cannabis and why it should be legalized. The deadline is in two weeks. I'll do my own research and post it here as I go along. I'll also post a copy of the speech and an outline when I'm done writing it.

I'd also appreciate some help though. I think it would be interesting to have a comprehensive resource regarding this matter on site since we have more than a few people interested in this wonderful plant Smile LOL responses are fine but please try to add a little substance too.

Feel free to dump a shit ton of facts and stories LOL

It's for speech and public speaking class, and I think I'm pretty good at sifting through a mass of information for relevant pieces as long as there's a goal in mind.

Quote:Mr. X by Carl Sagan

This account was written in 1969 for publication in Marihuana Reconsidered (1971). Sagan was in his mid-thirties at that time. He continued to use cannabis for the rest of his life.It all began about ten years ago. I had reached a considerably more relaxed period in my life – a time when I had come to feel that there was more to living than science, a time of awakening of my social consciousness and amiability, a time when I was open to new experiences. I had become friendly with a group of people who occasionally smoked cannabis, irregularly, but with evident pleasure. Initially I was unwilling to partake, but the apparent euphoria that cannabis produced and the fact that there was no physiological addiction to the plant eventually persuaded me to try. My initial experiences were entirely disappointing; there was no effect at all, and I began to entertain a variety of hypotheses about cannabis being a placebo which worked by expectation and hyperventilation rather than by chemistry. After about five or six unsuccessful attempts, however, it happened.

there are more stories there.
i'll work on it tomorrow, multitasking because i can, damn sony shit browser. =o

One possible jump-off point would be to start with the personal positive effects of cannabis usage, then you could just fan it out into societal/economical effects.

This link Nix posted could be a starting point for a personal anecdote.

Hemp cosmetics make use of positive properties of hemp, which, thanks to bacterial and regenerative effects, is irreplaceable, especially in the fight against skin disorders.

Quote:What is so different in the hemp seed oil compared to other oils used in cosmetics?

"Hemp seed oil is ideal for the cosmetic purposes; it contains a balanced ratio of precious unsaturated fatty acids and natural antioxidants, it is further hypoallergenic and penetrates very well to the skin, does not create only occlusive film on the top layer," explains Ivana Kostkova, MD. from the department of dermatovenerology in Prague 10. "Thanks to this property the unsaturated fatty acids and other components can penetrate in deeper layers of the skin and thus influence the cell properties directly and immediately. Hemp seed oil has, thanks to its properties, really a positive effect on the condition and function of the human skin, being able to harmonize the condition of skin cells, efficiently balance the water, lipid and pH balance of the skin and contributes also to regeneration of protective skin coat, thus increasing the overall resistance of the skin against negative external effects," adds MD Kostkova.

Quote: Rebuilding in a developing world

by Scott Blossom

In this developing world we must actively design communities that allow us to work with the environment, while utilizing the production of our building materials as an actual method of remediation and retrofitting of our current situation. By doing so, we can continue to grow at a rate that is sufficient to keep the economy strong, as well as allow our environment enough time to regenerate, even as we harvest agricultural resources that will replace synthetic materials. By using renewable materials that alleviate the need to extract those of which have taken years to form, we can release the many levels of pressure on the earth, before forces of nature release themselves. With this goal in mind, we are guided to design solutions that utilize renewable resources such as the industrial hemp plant.

Do u need more facts or stories?
Any update on the speech?

*vid related*
Imagine if every single person in the vid knew what the herb can do and its potential for the kabazillion "GOOD VIBES MAAAAN" events that are possible. Many people are oblivious, or apathetic, mostly oblivious. I used to be both.

*sigh* I don't think I'll be able to give the speech on cannabis anymore, because of a really good reason -_- Most of you guys already know why, just keep it down.

Thanks anyway.
