For all the times we have fun when we do have meetings, I keep thinking about the rest of the time when we're not playing. I mean, every one of us could be sooo good right now... if only we had the means to be able to play each other regularly.

For all the supposed elitism and dickery that abounds on Kai, you gotta admit that these guys do get the practice that they need, and they can get it almost at their whim, because at any point in the day there's bound to be one, two, hell even five players just playing around, testing stuff, getting even more accustomed to the game and its mechanics. This is not to take away anything from our meetings, no sir. Those hold for me a great deal more than what can be learned when playing online. I can even say with a great deal of certainty that I'm going to have more fun going to a friend's house and beating the crap out of his AC, and getting the crap beaten out of mine, than meeting each other through internet connections and just getting on with the matches. I know the after match meals will be taste much better, especially if they're free. Tongue But you see, the point I'm trying to make is that the online factor does have its uses. Never underestimate daily practice. With the way we're geographically located, regularly meeting with short in-between intervals is kinda impractical, especially with the transportation costs.

It's not even in Armored Core anymore, and in fact that's what drove me into writing this in the first place. I've been lurking for a long time in Metal Gear forums all around the web, and I saw the fun that they had with Metal Gear Online. Imagine it: one of the finest games ever created made even better with the addition of multiplayer. Thinking about the gaming sessions when you and your friends are all sitting at each one's home, drunk as fuck, and messing around with the online game engine is a nice thought. I personally would have liked to play MGO, but with its servers due for closing, that now is a situation with no hope of becoming possible. SLAI would've been fun to play around with online as well, but with the servers for that game gone too, no one's going to have some serious multiplayer fun with it soon.

So, obvious workaround: play some PC games. They're online/networked right? Yes, they are, but I'm not really too fond of MMORPGs (in fact I'm thinking about giving up the search for a Guild Wars CD), or first person shooters (Counter-Strike unfortunately got old too quick, especially with the fact that I was never too good at it). DOTA and Starcraft, I'm too far behind already to keep up. All the real games I want to play, and play with other people on both competitive and 'fun' levels, I find on the consoles.

Yeah, so in the end it boils down to three things for me:
1. What you're playing,
2. who you're playing it with, and
3. how you're playing it.

What you're playing and who you're playing with and how you're playing it. That's all that's needed to determine how much fun you're going to get, or how much more better, how much more dominant, etc. You gotta love the game you're playing first of all. Obviously no one's going to stick with a game they don't enjoy. That's why we're here right? That's why we have this forum. Because we enjoy Armored Core, as cheesy as that may sound.

Who you're playing. This is where the online factor could really help the most. When you have the privilege (damn right wanzer) of getting online you have access to a large number of players. And you'll finally be able to go against people that wouldn't have been possible to play with without this capability. Yes, you folks in Mindanao, and JE down under: I'm just waiting for the day when we could have some battles going. Smile Filipino community aside, you also have access to Japanese players, and the good American ones. As the saying goes, to be the man, you gotta beat the man. Unfortunate as that may sound, it's the reality of gaming circles: no one else will credit your skills unless you show them off.

How you're playing it. If you really want to be the best, you'll give your best. Simple.

All this writing becomes a moot point however, with my reality of a P999 DSL plan (not that I'm not grateful for that) and pirated games on my hands (also not that I'm not grateful we have games for cheap here, it just means no access). It just saddens me that we're missing out on so many great times, if only we all had better connections, more money to spend on games, and a better national economy. Tongue

Either way, I'm getting a PS3.

Hahahahaha what a way to end it. XDDDD

EDIT: Oh crap, wrong section. Moved. LOL

Getting a next-gen console that has a free internet service would end all of this. Just what you said earlier, bwahahahahahahahaha!

I would stop playing MMORPGs once I get my own hands on a PS3.

LOL So you moved it, which is why I can't post, LOL.

The proper term is "Developing Nation" Tongue

I'm getting a Wii most likely though. But if its for AC, its going to be a 360 simply because I like its existing game library. The PS3 better make me want it if I'm gonna buy it, but as of now I'm not convinced.

Of all the people here, I may be one of those who can easily relate to what the Boss said...

Kasi ako may pinakakaunting sources.

Ehehe...

Seriously speaking...
I know most of us want to fight everyone.
I know most of us want to know everyone's style.
Even if you don't win, the thrill of the match helps you go on.
But if you don't have enough sources, you won't enjoy everything you want to do.
Because nowadays, everyone needs money to have such technical fun.

Unlike before with Patintero, Tumbang Preso, Taguan...
Simple non-technical games with no VAT required...
But that was before. Now's a different age...

High tech na eh. Mas magastos na...
But the fun's still there and pretty much the same. The medium's changed though.

Anyways...
Like what I've once said to a friend:
Work hard and be patient. After that, make your special place...

As for me. I'll study harder then work hard and then have my own shop.
That, for me is the best way to enjoy your interests...

Hahah yeah that's the term that I was looking for. Tongue

And yes, the Wii is looking totally attractive. It also helps that the Wii is almost half the price Tongue

nice one jonevangelist Laughing

But it's not a "walk in the park" here.
Things like food and services are very expensive here.
A haircut costs 3000yen unlike the 35php,
McDo BigMac meal costs 580yen,
Yoshinoya's Gyudon costs 340yen,
Trains initial costs 120yen (1 station apart)
Arcade games cost 100yen a game,
An hour in a massage parlor costs 12,000yen (hmmm...)
just to give some examples to think about.

damn, i miss eating at jollibee already.

Whoops, I posted on the wrong thread because I opened too many tabs. Arg

@ Topic:
Back to the topic. Anyway, I'm probably planning to get a PS3, since it's actually the only console that I ever trusted, blah whatever. I would like to play a console that has a free online subscription unlike XBOX. Honestly, I don't really want to play a console that demands you to pay 2500 a month so you could play onnline. I'm getting a PS3 this time and once this happens, I'm gonna stick with the PS3 and desert those goddamn MMORPGS.

another thing i have a really huge gripe about, and what got me into trouble back then, was the fact that some people get so hostile when you point out flaws in their precious AC design.

booyaka told me on ACG: "these people act like 16-year-olds without makeup".

damn he's right. Laughing

No problem with the console,I have the three of them,my favorite is the PS3.
Wii has the attractive Wiimote, but later you'll find out that's all there is for wii.
Xbox360 is only good at price. It may have a better game library and better net services,But it just ain't good enough.Plus I don't like their staffs.Very very very unfriendly.Hated the subscription either.I like the PS3 because..Well I don't know Big grin It's just great!Plus it's helpfull.currently helping the stanford university on observing proteins to create cures.By downloading it,you can help the university as well,no need for manual calculations, the PS3 is like a super computer that can automatically calculate and study the proteins of the work unit assigned to the PS3,This is the project which made Sony busy,"Folding@home" project.Yep,this is also a reason why sony don't have enough games yet and can't keep the gamesexclusive for the console.later this will pass.

So I would suggest getting a PS3 for everyday training for free.Price is worth it so don't regret.

And I agree with cabs, common services there are way expensive than here. But their Hi tech things are way cheaper than here

Lol, thinking of some formerly active members are we? Tongue Yeah man, most people don't realize what a forum really is, especially for gaming-geared ones such as AC sites. Most people don't realize that once they put their builds out there, it's for public consumption, and as such is very open to critique, harsh or soft, and sometimes ridicule. People need to toughen up. It's only the internet, after all. If it was in real life I'd hate to see their faces when people tell them what's wrong with their design.

EDIT: Although sometimes, people really do know what their design is all about, and others just need to back off.

That being said though, it's nice that I still find our forums here remaining as one of the last few ones where members practice courtesy to all, newbie or vet... well, most of us anyway. HAHAHA

But that's enough ego pumping for the Republic. Rofl
